Noticed my beautiful gray showgirl (half lav) was looking a little slow yesterday, and again this morning. Went on to my day's activity and when I came home right into the house to set up a hospital cage for her. However, when I went out, she was dead. I don't know what was wrong with her but I DO know what killed her--it was obvious. A snake had tried to swallow her head first and she suffocated. Her head and neck were slimy and her beautiful, large crest was pasted down and swept forward (from the regurgitation). I'm so angry with myself that I didn't bring her in this morning.
Then one of the three tiny silkies/showgirls in a very small brooder was screaming. When I went to check it out, the box had tilted, spilling the water and drowning the SG I'd just taken from the incubator this morning. The two other babes are OK, although the screamer was fairly wet.
