I truly don’t understand what is wrong with some of you people. The OP is asking for your understanding not to argue with her. Please stop. Give them a break or stop posting. Oh this is so sad. As animal people I'm sure that shooting the dog felt very yucky. We recently lost our very first dog to being hit by a car. We were so sad to lose her, but also took full responsibility for her death as we were her owners. It is never the person driving on the PUBLIC ROADS fault for hitting a dog, it is always the dog owners fault. The same is true in your case. It stinks, but it is the dog owners fault. WE have certainly learned are lesson and hope they will too. So sorry

I had just put youngest DD to bed, and other 2 DD's were on their computers at the kitchen table. I'm on my computer in the living room and DH is watching TV also in the LR. I thought I heard a car door, I said to DH. I told him before I opened the door that I hoped it wasn't the neighbors this late. NOPE! It was the SHERRIFF and a deputy! He said hey folks, heard there was a dog shooting, can you give us the details? We asked first how they came to be on our door step? The sherriff said the NEIGHBOR called cause we shot their dog! WHAT!, we said?? I started to laugh so hard bout peed myself! Then we explained the story. He went on to tell us the law was on our side in detail! Then asked how many chickens were lost, and if we had planned on seeking compensation? We said we were unsure, the sherriff said that he would recommend it, and to still get ahold of the CA! He also said these boys have been in so much trouble, and I'd tell you why, but I know there are other posters on BYC that live near enough to me that we go to the same stock yards, unknowingly. THEN, we proceeded to tell them about the harrassment. They said we'll put a stop to that right now! Then said have a good evening and if we have any more trouble to let them know immediately! Then they got in their K-9 unit car and drove back to the neighbors house! I haven't seenthem sense, but would guess they have left the neighboorhood. SHEEWWW! Sorry so long, but wanted to let you know what happened! I'll post some more info when DH gets ahold of the CA. The sherriff said he's/CA been REAL busy! K? Questions? LOL

I just felt a big wave of relief flood through me after reading that. Though I'm sure it's not completely over.

I'm actually glad the neighbor called them! But why NOW!? They must be crazy...we reported it as soon as we got back in the house that night! And GLAD we did! I showed the officer the sheet of paper I've been righting down all of the incidents on, he just smiled, and shook his head up and down, saying good job! Thanks BYC friends for telling me to document it all!! Insert <-----------------------------BIG GROUP HUG!------------------------------------------------>to all of you!! Even the ones with differing opinions, as they gave me ideas as to how the neighbors might be thinking and feeling. It kinda let me see outside of my box. So we wait and see....

So glad that you were able to talk to the PO's and they understand what happend. It kinda of confuses me as to why the neighbors called the law when they knew they didn't have a leg to stand on! Anyway, I'm just glad you and your DD and family are doing okay. Probably still in shock a little, but hoping things will get back to normal, whatever normal is, and live your lives the way it should be lived.
I think I worded that right! Sometimes I get flustered when I post a reply and hope I don't say anything that will get me into trouble.
