Sigh... Saddens me to think of all the birds people have lost thinking DE is an effective wormer.

I could post a bunch of links to disprove DE is ineffective as a wormer, but I wont, simply search the BYC forum if you want proof. For example: Read Bear Foot Farm's posts regarding DE. And if I'm not good enough for you to believe it from my experiences, there are plenty of posts from folks on here who used DE religiously only to discover their birds died from worm infections, most with official necropsies to prove it. All you have to do is look. Good luck..

Oh well have looked at other threads lol, numerous times... I see the same posts, same links, and same people responding in the same manner...that's why it's so essential to clear up the misinformation. Some people use it with great results, some don't know how to use it, and some don't like it.... Insulting "us people" really isn't necessary, and you have every right not to use it.
Birds die all the time. The entire ENVIRONMENT of the bird needs to be working in synchronicity. Obviously, dusting a lice ridden bird then plopping it back into a lice ridden coop with pathogens in the soil, and expecting it to be a "miracle cure" to fix all your woes, that isnt going to happen lol..you are most likely wasting your money.
Have you hade necropsies done on *all* birds you have lost?

Not the headless ones ROFL...
Yes, I lost 8 7 years ago from a pesticide poisoning; neighbor was trying to poison deer, so he said, that were coming from our cornfield...
I lost one to an odd embolism; guess her old brain just blew up, literally... That one was 5 years old, young, so I was curious...
Oh there was one that somehow got en egg twisted inside of her but I couldn't tell where it was...
Other than that, no necropsies needed on obvious egg bound, old (7+ years), impacted crop a couple times. No death from pathogens.
See the problem is this; you kill everything all sterile, then you get pathogens or mites from everything being out of balance. Chickens have worms. WE HAVE worms lol... IN CONTROLLED numbers. All worming is doing is DECREASING the load. Birds that are healthy, in a healthy COMPLETE environment, don't need doused with chemicals, DE will work just fine. Things out if balance and a loss if a niche in predation or control, and yes, there will be infestations.
Yes, I've repeatedly read about your "friend" and the jar of lice... Cute story, not really what I consider to be "reputable proof", no offense to your friend
The vet we had back then (late 90s) was the one who started my wormwood patch and told me about DE. But he also knew that I was one if "those people" who wanted to find a better way to keep my family healthy (yes my chooks are family...so are the cows etc..) So HE suggested it....
Maybe it's actually the wormwood doing it lol, all I know us I have never needed common medicines, and its just my OPINION that DE is great when a person doesn't want to use chemicals.![]()
