thanks! i can out of one eye! i see three of everything in the 'pecked' eye.

funny thing, when i was a kid, i had to wear a patch over my eye because i have strabismus, kind of like a 'lazy eye'. it helps strengthen the weak muscles. like i didn't get teased enough then, that i would do something to get another one!

splinters in the eye. yuck.

had surgery on both mine for the 'lazy eye' thing and the stitches actually came out too early and my eyeball popped open in the middle of a Burger King!

let's just say it was painful at best.

I am sorry for your injury, Jayne. I hope a lot of people take your thread into account when they are working with their chickens.

Also, many small children are the perfect height to be injured by farm animals. I worry every time we are in the feild and my 2 year old is playing with the little goat bucks. Both have horns that are exactly his eye height. I have a freak out every time because I know if we are not careful he could easily be gored as the bucks play around with him.

Get well soon!

Really glad that you are OK and there is no permant damage. I lost an eye a little over a year ago, and it's no fun trying to adjust.

thank you! and i hope they do also. all birds want to be 'top dog' in the peck order and when they perch on shoulders, they are challenging to be in authority over us.

and absolutely true about small children. goat goring is something that happens more often than we like to think. the goats want to 'play' and children don't stop to think just because they are still learining.

i am so grateful also. hope you will adjust well soon. that is quite a challenge you are overcoming!

So sorry for your loss, our eyes are so important to us. chickens peck at shiny things...period. I wear glasses but still won't let my tame chicken near my face, too much to lose.
So glad all came out well for you Jayne!!

I think you should have gotten a helmet as well as safety glasses
