Our Black Australorp have started laying whoohoo! We have 5 'original' girls, two of which started laying recently. They were 18 weeks July 14(ish), so 20 weeks tmrw. Our first one was Warden, funky comb and curved foot, blue tag. She's laid in the Infirmary (nesting boxes) since day one, yay! 7 eggs now, with a fairy egg between, and our second one started last week, about every other day, and third one was today! She had a cheering square, and their egg song is super loud, she was squawking so loud we could hear her inside, so cute, hubby went to go check on her and let her know we saw her lovely egg! Lol

Here are a few photos. We are using hay and they seem to like it okay.

The rest of the flock are a few weeks behind, so we've got time. Three of the five were super red with big waddles a week or two before laying.

Beautiful birds! I love your flock!

Thank you! We love them too, had to get a bigger fan for our Brahmas as they seem to pant in 80F weather where we are (Indiana)(even in the open run and well ventilated pen, but they are learning under the coop is cooler and to just sit and relax during heat of day). But we love them and will try to take care of them to our best abilities!

Beautiful birds. I was looking at the Australorps because we got our first ones a few weeks ago. I was just trying a breed we hadn't had before because I needed some for a broody to hatch. They were always supposed to find a new home, but they are so curious and friendly even for being hen raised. They're 6 weeks old now. I may find it hard to let them go!
