While doing errands today, me and my husband came across a hen and rooster running loose at our local Safeway parking lot. They were just running around dodging cars, so we decided to try and catch them. The hen was relatively easy to catch, but the rooster OMG was the hardest sucker to catch! We'd almost catch him, but then he'd slip away somehow crowing (laughing) as he ran away. So an hour and a half later with a crowed of Safeway employees, a security guard, and a couple other shoppers we got a hold of the little sucker. So we bring them both home, and luckily we just completed a small chicken tractor that we could put them in. When I opened the box to get them out, surprise! The little hen layed an egg for us.

We gave them food and water, and a couple hours to selttle in. After they seemed like they had relaxed a bit I wanted to give them a branch to roost on, and a catbox of dirt to dust bathe in. Turns out that was a bad idea. Somehow this rooster managed to squeeze through the small gap in the door behind me and takes off down the road. So great we get to catch him again! Only this time he did managed to disappear. Hopfully he'll come back, cause the little hen is squawking her head off for him. But i almost hope he doesn't, this roosters a FAST crazy psycho bird.

Anyways, I have no idea what kind of chickens these are, any guesses?

They are not good layers but make good mothers. I am glad you saved them from the Safeway parking lot!

About your coop-- you need a structure they can go into to get out of the elements, and the wire floor of what you have now could hurt them. Best to put some type of bedding over it so they can scratch around at will.
