Peacock

Oh beautiful šŸ˜ my husband wants some but we don’t have a pond yet.
They are fantastically beautiful, and the mute swan don't make a lot of noise, but you will need a fence around your pond. If there is a pond nearby after they eat all the weeds in your pond they may wander to another close by pond. They can eat up to 8 lbs. of weeds a day. I feed mine swan food, soaked corn all kinds of greens, grass. I have another pond full of weeds but haven't found the time to move the fence.

WOW, 8 pounds of weeds!!! I bet they can put away the food being as big as they are. They are sooooo beautiful though. I can surely see why you have them Mark.

Thanks! I can't give them up. I talk to them all the time, and they make me laugh at some of their crazy things they do. :love

You are most welcome Mark. I totally get that. That's how I am with my Ducks. I can sit and watch them fall asleep and still be amused by them. I talk to mine also and trust me, those girls talk back, lol.

I found a big bowl of turkey from Thanksgiving in my freezer I threw it in the pond. I guess they don't like turkey  but something did it started moving and I saw two dark shadows moving around it all of a sudden it went straight down.! I know it wasn't turtles maybe big catfish. At any rate I pray they get the peacock back.

I pray that they do too. I hope whatever likes Turkey in your pond does not scare your Swans.

I was just reading about peacocks and it said to keep them from flying away you should give them a safe place to be, shower them with love and care and that you can clip one wing just as I do my ducks to keep them from flying off. If he returns you could possibly try that. l
He is very well loved. I just let him do his thing. I’m the closest he will get too. I’m on his time. šŸ’”

Hello, I’m a fairly new peacock owner. I live on 20 acres with a lot of other farm animals. My peacock is about 12 months old. He’s been locked up in his adult cage for 3 months & did great. I wanted to free range him along with my chickens. about 2 months ago I let him out. He’s done great, up until today. We had a scare about a month ago when he disappeared. I found him up in a tree. He came down the next day. Today when I left for work he was in the yard. When I got home he was no where to be found!!! Help will he come back ? Did I do something wrong? He loves it here. I don’t see why he would run away. Him & my pigs are best friends!! He’s very missed. Any suggestions welcome.
Welcome to BYC, and sorry your peacock has wandered off. :hugs Many years ago, I had one wander off. I went door to door and finally found him. So if I were you, I would go door to door, make fliers, put fliers up around the neighborhood & feed stores, go to animal control and fill out a lost pet form, put a lost ad on Craigslist, and maybe join Nextdoor.
