Peafowl 201: Further Genetics- Colors, Patterns, and More

Pics
I thought white eyes show up from the first train. All mine have. But so far the only white eye peacocks I have had are the IB.
Supposedly the Cameo was a white eye when I got him but I did not see them. I did not mind as Cameo is not a breeding color for me. When he dropped his train and I could really look close at each feather I saw there was not any indication of it and he is a 6 yr old bird.

I have found in peafowl there is more misinformation among those that just want pretty birds and not really into serious breeding. At least locally. I have heard some doozies from people around me with peafowl.

The more you learn the more you can distinguish the fact from the fiction. Consider how small the feathers are when they start growing and how much they enlarge by the time they are fully grown out. What is a very small white dot will expand a lot over time. There is still controversy on the meaning of a lot of terms used in peafowl because there isn't a regulatory body yet. We had a start with the UPA but it has run into some problems as all volunteer groups do.

Fantastic discussion! I've learned so much from this site! Thank you!
I've got a 2016 hatch guy that I thought was just a dark pied, but he's been getting white tipped feathers growing in over his rump and his wing feathers look like they were dusted with flour. His father is a very large Spaulding silver pied bird. Not sure what his mother looks like. Could this guy be dark pied white eye?

He's a little squirrelly, so catching pics of him is tough. If he is dark pied white eye and I put him over a white hen (spring '18), will their chicks will be pied split white eye?
Also, the young hen on the left in the pic below has white spots at the tips of her neck feathers. Does this indicate she's carrying 2 copies of the we gene? Or something else?

He certainly looks to be White Eye. Not knowing what he mother was it will be harder to say if he is full WE or just a single factor. Since the father is Silver Pied, meaning that he carries White, SP, Pied and WE, the offspring could express any or all of those genes.

Thanks. I will see if I can find out what his mother is. My guess is that he's from a pen w several hens, as his father has lots of potential to pass along. :)
