First of all, @abpatchy congratulations for your prize and for your beautiful birds!

@fluffycrow so far I didn't get any shipped eggs either.
One of my hens is sitting on a bunch of eggs since sunday but I didn't have the time to search for the eggs I wanted... I just gave her some of her sisters'. I still don't really trust shipped eggs. Anyway I have those Araucana and Vorwerk chicks now and soon my broody hen will hatch her eggs so I can't complain!

Hey abpatchy,
How are your winners doing in this heat? We have about 33 degree Celsius here now... And our hens are already panting with their beaks open and lifting their wings. I wonder what they will do in a real summer heat wave. We're down in the rhine valley, we will have up to 40 degrees easily. Do they get used somehow to those higher temperatures? In the past weeks it was really dry, they seemed to cope with that good. But yesterday we finally had some rain (6 weeks without rain before.) Now the air is so damn moist we're sweating just by sitting somewhere in the shades...
@All the others : how do your chicken breeds do?

We already have all the heat limiting measures in place except for a climatised coop. (They won't get one, my house isn't even climatised)

They are suffering... at least I feel like they are. Open beak, wings hanging down trying to cool off. I have been trying to provide shade for them in the last years... trees, bushes. But not all survived as we got pretty sandy dirt around here and it doesn't keep moisture well.
It's been so hot and dry. Not much rain lately... if it did rain then it evaporated soon after.

We're in the low thirties this week. Mine only open their beaks and wings when it gets to 35 degrees and up. For now they "pant" a little at the warmer part of the day. They have constant shade, and my coops are open-air. We also have the sprinklers for the trees and plants, so they gather under those as well

We had temps low 30’s too last weeks. I havent seen my Dutch or bantam RIR panting. But they can seek spots in the shade and get fresh water every day. Not just drinking bottles but also a bowl with water to cool their feet if they want to.

The coop for the hens is very airy. The small coop for the chicks is my concern at the moment. I think I’m going make a window with hardware cloth to attach in the door opening (to leave that open) for more ventilation on hot summer nights. It getting crowded and it started to smell too the last couple of days.

When its getting over 35 C my chickens start panting too. Deep shade and bowls with cool water helps.
