those aseel guys were left to roam around at my friend's farm. as no roo was in their way they didn't bother to chase them.

my fayoumi boys live in peace as long as they are not in the way. I have 3 boys with 4 girls. the other day a huge pita pinta tried to mate a blue haze (layer hybrid) and a 3 times smaller fayoumi chased him away.

I've heard a lot of similar stories on fayoumi. They seem like good birds

Im considering buying 3 Sussex bantams from an acquaintance who lives nearby.
She has 6 big ones and 3 bantams who don’t get along very well. She has these chickens since last summer and they are all healthy. I have room for these 3 bantams and would like to add them to flock.

But … She bought them with a vaccination against Marek disease. My flock is free of Marek. And I wonder if this can cause problems with chicks I might want to hatch in the future.

Does anyone know if I risk bringing in Marek in my flock and having dead chicks in the future?

I have been told that if chicks were vaccinated 2+ months ago there is no risk. ask a vet to be sure. I have never had an issue with vaccinated hybrids that I kept with the rest of my chickens.

So how are things going with everybody?
This year I seem to have a better time hatching chicks. I set 95 eggs two weeks ago. 67 are still in the machine and doing well. I'll be setting 85 (plus what they are laying today) later today. If all goes well I only need to hatch twice this year.

My Augsburger moved out last Sunday. I was saddened more than I expected. They are so great! But I am happy that they go to breeders. Would have been sad if they were "just" egg layers somewhere. They are so rare still.

I also decided to cull one of my roosters. His behavior is just not the way it should be as well as I noticed a white feather in his wing. Not sure if I'll be setting the eggs from this group... still got a few hours to think about it.

I set 63 eggs just now. I moved some roosters around and I'll be collecting in eggs in 2 weeks then and set just the one group in 4 weeks. I cannot hatch any more of that rooster. Just does not make sense. I moved him into a rooster pen and I'll butcher him. Another reason was that he came at me yesterday. I think it's for the better.
