What an ordeal you must have gibe through šŸ˜„ happy to hear you an on the road to recovery šŸ‘šŸ» and I would love to hear your story!!! And yes, sometimes there are so many ā€œcoincidencesā€ that you know it is more than that!!! I had the same experience when a large heavy oak fell on our house!!! šŸ¤—

can you tell us your story about that experience?

Well, there was a storm predicted, my hubby said at 2pm, well, much hype about nothing, 10 minutes later we heard a ā€œcrackā€, we knew something must have fallen, but thought maybe a branch, when we tried to go outside we couldnā€™t, cos our roof above the entrance had bended across our door ( made out if metal) a oak tree was in front of it, when we got upstairs and looked out we saw our 100 year old oak had fallen across our house ( later we found out it weighed about 9 metric tons šŸ˜®) the storm was still raging ( the tree was still full with leaves, so it was kind of dragging left and right on our roof) and then my daughter called, she couldnā€™t get home, trainā€™s werenā€™t running, she had gotten on a bus, the bus driver stopped it after 2 stations and told everyone to leave, so they did. She was stuck in the middle of nowhere, just a little money and alone, we told her to call a taxi ( there was a post where you could call one a few hundred meters away) if course it took her 45 minutes to get to it ( everyone was waiting their turn) when she finally got a taxi, he said he would drive if she paid , she told him we would pay, and they really got to our place after 50 minutes, even though trees were falling right and left šŸ˜„ during that time we tried calling the emergency service numbers ( police/fire fighters) it took 3 hrs of constant dialing with 3 cell phones to finally get someone on the phone ( donā€™t know what would have happened if it had been a health issue) and they said we werenā€™t the only ones, it would take time. At 10 pm we called again and they said they didnā€™t think we needed them anymore ( hello, did the tree just walk off?!) and they would send someone, but first a person to view the damage and then maybe someone to helpā€¦ at 11:30 pm someone finally showed up and said we really needed help, I think about 2pm the firefighters finally came and only sawed a few branches off to free our driveway, they said we needed professional help, we should call a tree specialist in the morning šŸ¤Ŗ and of course a roofer. The next morning, guess what, I called 30 roofer/tree specialist, either nobody answered the phone, if I did get a person (3) they didnā€™t have any time, someone said to call in 1,5 years šŸ˜® of course I donā€™t mind having a 9 ton oak lying on my roof all that time šŸ¤Ŗ anyway , one offered to lay a chain around the tree and drag it off the roof, which would have laid our house to rubble! All my neighbors saw our plight and came over, and that is when the miracles started happening, one neighbor had rented a crane for that day to cut down his pine, he offered it to us, another neighbor had a Stihl motor saw and knew how to use it, so, these grown men with 5 kids among them got onto that crane and started cutting off all the extra branches on the tree to ā€œlighten the loadā€, another neighbor had given a credit to a company which specializes in heavy duty cranes, he called that guy, of course all the cranes were away , only the largest was available, and the boss himself offered to come to us and help us with his crane ( took a few hrs to get it to our place) at 8 pm they had reduced the weight of the oak, the crane could lift a maximum of 8 tons, but they werenā€™t sure the tree was too heavy, so they removed the tip of the crane ( it was of course extendable) and ā€œsavedā€ some weight, they then secured chains to different branches and started lifting the tree off, I have never prayed so hard and long šŸ™šŸ» first, that while the neighbors were cutting off the branches alle day long that the tree wouldnā€™t twist and kill them both , then that that crane could lift the tree, and thank GOD, it did!!! Another neighbor helped, he had a golf lawn, fertilized it and mowed it constantly, but he allowed the crane to be put on his perfect lawn cos it couldnā€™t reach the tree on our property, the lawn was totally torn up after that, but he got it fixed ( we offered to do it for him, but he said it was ok ) the next day, of course it was raining and the water was dripping through 100 holes in the roof , my hubby went to the supermarket to buy pizza ( even though we had some in the freezer) there he met our neighbor buying buns, he wanted to buy them in the morning, but hadnā€™t had the time, there they met a friend of our neighbor, who was, guess what, a ROOFER !!! So our neighbor said, ā€œhi there, these are our neighbors, a tree just fell on their house, you GOT to help themā€ the roofer looked like he regretted ever going shopping, but said he would help in between jobsā€¦ then, when he saw the tree he said we were extremely lucky!!! It had fallen on a corner if the roof, which are extra strong, if the tree had fallen on the middle of the roof, it would have gone through like a knife through butter, killing us all šŸ˜® soo, I do believe šŸ˜‡

Of course there is also other stuff, we live on a road which usually has no through traffic, but in that week , I guess we had 90 people driving , walking, biking šŸ¤Ŗ another ( small) tree had fallen on the road , so the people had to turn back and go past our house again šŸ™„
On a positive note, we have had excellent firewood the past years, while fuel and natural gas prices have skyrocketed šŸ˜…

Here is the tree just getting lifted from our roof, the crane tip had a weight indicator so that it doesnā€™t lift anything over the limit

Wow Maiahr, what devastating news. Glad to have yo back! Hope you recover well.

I didn't get any alerts from this thread. So thanks for the @. This was my last post:

I hope to have a broody very soon in March and can get hold of 6 hatchery eggs. Because that would mean I probably have eggs upcoming winter.
If that doesnā€™t work out, I wait till May because we planned a vacation in April.
I have a broody now and can pick up 6 bantam Sumtaler eggs tonight. ;)

Iā€™ve been reading a little but know very little about their character. Do you have extra information about them @abpatchy ? German is okay too.

Catching up later.

when I see these things to happen I remember a proverb: if you want God to laugh at you, make plans. even in the worst nightmare we don't consider accidents and disasters.

It's funny that you would get bantam Sulmtaler. Just a day or two ago a breeder friend ordered herself some bantam Sulmtaler hatching eggs.... and I get to hatch them for her! What a coincidence!
I think they are absolutely cute and adorable!! But I know very little about them as our specialty club does include bantam Sulmtaler, just the LF.
There is a Sonderverein Zwerg-Sulmtaler... or you can google Zwerg-Sulmtaler in general. There is lots of info out there but I don't know how accurate it is.
Good luck with your hatch!

The first chicks for this year are hatching as I am typing this. The machine is full of little yellow fluff balls. I got some bantam Barnevelder in there as well for a breeder friend. But so far I only see one of those has hatched. But my incubator is hard to look into once there's chicks... So I got to wait and see. I'll take them out tomorrow morning. :love

@chickengr So have you moved to geese and ducks now? How about chicken? Where is @BDutch ?
Last year I had a serious car accident but praise God - it was a miracle I survived, God really saved me (if you only hear how I survived you will have no doubt it was God). I spent months in the hospital and after that home bed-bound, then on a wheelchair.. Now I can walk, still on crutches but I am getting better. So in my absence I lost all my 200-birds flock. Only a pair of peacocks survived. Now I am starting to grow my flock from scratch.

Soon I am looking for hatching eggs again from some interesting breeds... I bought eggs from a Czech company, they have varieties of hybrids all called "Czech Dominant" so I was wondering if anybody has heard of them.

I am looking for eggs from Leghorn BREED, NOT Leghorn hybrids as all we have in Bulgaria are white hybrids (like DeKalb for instance) which they call Leghorns...
Oh goodness!! Glad you are recovering from that accident! I am sorry about your birds though...

I found more info, thanks for the tip.
Dwarf Sulmtaler were made by the German breeder H. J. Webers from Isernhagen around 1953. He took large Sulmtalers, dwarf Paduans, Dwarf Orpington, German dwarf chickens and German dwarf salmon chickens. He wanted to form a dwarf chicken breed that was as small and vital as possible and meets the requirements and housing conditions of modern sports breeders.

Character:

Dwarf Sulmtaler chickens are quiet and peaceful animals. They are curious, trusting, lively and fearless. They can easily be made very tame and are therefore also suitable for children. In addition, they like to scrape a lot and are not in the least interested in who or what is currently behind them. They can fly well and can also be accommodated quite well in a small space. Normally, they hardly tend to chuck.

"This breed is the delightful miniature edition of the Sulmtaler chicken, ...... . Due to their coarse country chicken shape, the small head and the distinctive feather dress, the trusting, lively animals are pretty, small appearances." (Our dwarf chicken breeds,

Walter Schwarz 1995)

Appearance:

The dwarf Sulmtaler chicken is a strong, rather rough country chicken with a deep, wide box shape, fine bone structure and hardly medium-high, flesh-coloured legs. The rather long back is horizontal, the rather short tail well spread and worn half-high. A special feature of this breed is the small head, which is pleasingly not so lush that it takes away the view of the chicken. In front of the hood there is a single comb with weakly notched spikes. For hens, it is a wrap comb. The earlobes are white and the eyes are coloured orange-red.

Colour strokes:

Gold-wheat-coloured

Blue-wheat-coloured

Silver-wheat-coloured

Weight:

Rooster about 1,200 g, hen 1,000 g

Laying capacity:

Egg weight:

About 160 eggs per year

40 g

In the Netherlands they give slightly other info: the hens wil be around 800 grams and lay about 150 eggs a year.
The Sulmtaler Krielen are originally a breed from Germany.

Sulmtaler Krielen are quiet hens who can take a beating.

The color of the Sulmtaler Krielen is wheat.

Sulmtalers Krielen lay about 150 eggs per year and the weight of the egg is about 35 grams and the color of the egg is cream color.

As a useful breed, the Sulmtaler belongs among the legrasses and sierrasen.

The Sulmtaler Krielen have a single comb and they have a Tintin.

The weight of the rooster is about 1000 grams and of the hens 800 grams.

The ring size is 13 mm for the rooster and 11 mm for the hen.
