These are my first-born pheasant babies.
The neat thing is the red golden chick hatched from my first egg of the year!
So far all the eggs from my trio have been fertile and are developing in the incubator. I have two more due to hatch on the 13th and six more the week after that!
Am very grateful to all the BYC-ers who have patiently guided me to this point!
The peach chick was the only survivor from seven shipped eggs which got jostled in the mail. Five tried to develop but only one made it. A second had pipped internally and died. There was moisture inside the egg and he didn't appear shrink wrapped but the air cell seemed big enough so I'm not sure what went wrong there.
My husband had to stay home from work today and keep setting the peach chick back upright as he was so weak. He is a survivor though and is now eating, drinking and racing round the brooder. I can't believe how energetic these chicks are compared to chickens. Tomorrow I plan to put a lid on the brooder because they're going to escape!
