Pigeon Talk

I also know of this method of sexing. I think I posted it on the Pigeon Bulletin board some time ago. When I go to purchase pigeons,,,,,, If looking for a hen, I first pick out the smaller birds. I then double-check with the pelvic opening. Has worked for me very well. The person at the place I was purchasing the pigeons thought me this trick.:thumbsup
It was at the Live poultry store. They sold pigeons that fanciers no longer wanted to keep. Often times they were homers that lost races.:hit
That is what fanciers do to loo$er$ in my area. The wager amounts are kept in the club confidentially. It is Gambling in varying scales.
I'll have to try this method. I have 2-3 that I'm still not sure of. I'm glad that they try to sell the pigeons that don't make the grade. It is the darker side of racing as to what happens to the loosers or excess pigeons. I had this first hand, remember when I got lucky? The pigeon with the broken leg.

Trip laid her first egg! :wee
Guess I’ll have to finish making the front for the box soon. :p

Okay, I'm trying to compose a message to the seller I bought all my cocks from. How would you guys phrase this? I don't want to come off as rude.

“Hello. You sold me a pair of pigeons that were supposed to be male/female, but it turns out they are both cocks. Not sure if you have any type of exchange policy, but I really needed a hen. Can you help me out at all?”

Or something of that nature?

That sounds good, but exchanging isn't really a possibility since the birds were shipped, and the seller would probably want me to pay shipping to send the bird back and then get the new bird, etc.

So I'm thinking all I can really do is ask for like, a half price hen or something, but then I still have to pay shipping.

I’d play dumb and keep it simple at first, just let him know he said they were a pair and they aren’t. Let him make offers of how to make it right... or see if he’s going to be a Richard about it.

This gets my vote!:thumbsup When you are going to negociate, try to find out what your counterpart's opening position is. Then if necessary, counter the offer.
