Pigeon Talk

That's a great video. You can actually see the crop get bigger! They're doing great and you're doing great with them! They're gonna be fine!

I put rings on my two yesterday and at 4 days they were still too small. One ring came off so I'll try again tonight. I will weigh them. How much should they weigh at this age? They do seem small for 4 days.
We NEED some pic updates on the prince and princess!:D

No idea how much they weigh at that age.

For sure! I bet your boss would love that! lol.

Actually, I can do it. For one, our place is not open to the public on Mondays, but I still work. And honestly, my boss wouldn’t mind. I can take them in a small box, I have my own office, everyone would love to see them. :)

Did it smell like infection?

I didn’t smell anything greatly offensive, although I didn’t intentionally sniff it. I’m pretty good at smelling offensive odors, but I’m also fairly immune when opening dead eggs now.

I have no idea what they should weigh. I guess that’s another good argument for weighing, so we could share!
First time I weighed Bugsy was at 11 days, I think, she was 132 grams.

But while I was searching for videos on weighing them, I ran across this video of dove babies that both died at a week old.
Very sad, but morbidly interesting

x2:)
I saw that sad video too.:(
So Brewer and Brick are doing well this am?

:thumbsup Awesome! Looking better already! They should gain weight and feather out quickly now.:love

After feeding this morning, Brick weighed 120 grams! He’s definitely a brick lol

Now I’m wondering how long I can keep them inside, if the parents will go back to feeding them, or should I just wait until they are eating regular feed/seed on their own?

Excellent weight! Don't you think some of the low weight was dehydration?
Heck, If you enjoy caring for them just finish raising them til they are ready to wean. Maney Loft makes a practice of taking the babies to raise at 2 weeks making them very tame and allowing the pair to start a new nest without the strain of continued feeding. The parents would likely feed but maybe not enough in the cold weather. I think they would benefit if you just foster them.:)

Hmm. Not sure what to think of this vid. It's sad but I had to turn the sound off. Is pigeon mortality the same as pigeons? I think pigeons seem alot more hardy.

Biophiliac is right. I would just continue feeding them. Looks like your doing good!

Yes. When I get home I'll get them weighed and get some updates pics! They do seem smaller than the others I've had. But this is Beau's first time and I'm not sure about boomer. I've seen them being fed though and they seem lively enough!

Read my mind! I was going to ask again which guy it was that hand raises. I’ll go back and review his videos again.
Hubby is not opposed to keeping them inside, so maybe I’ll just do that. This morning, I saw Rocky trying to lure Trip to one of the new nest bowls I set up when I widened the coop. I was feeling bad for them, but I guess they move on.

Oh also when I cleaned out their nest bowl, it was yucky, but worse than the yuck, it was damp in the bottom. I guess that very warm day we had, and I gave them a swim bowl, they got the nest very wet. I’m sure that didn’t help when it got cold!! I do think they were quite dehydrated though, especially after seeing their crops full now. This is good experience for me!
