Pigeon Talk

I am missing 3 birds as of last night.
After 24 hours still no birds have returned.

I have taken a lapse in training my young homers.
What I think happen is 3 of my young squeakers went out with my adult flock and failed to return.
I released them for an evening fly some time between 1700hr & 1800hrs.
I am not 100% certain as to which birds are missing but that is my best guess.
I know better than to do this.

I feel you. :hugs Hopefully they will return. Do they usually go far when you loft fly them?

Not as a rule they usually stay in sight of the loft for the most part.
One pigeon missing is the one with the broken femur.
She has been flying with the flock now for a few days with no problems.
I am especially hoping for her return I have become attached to that one.

We will all keep our fingers and toes crossed for a safe return.

I finally got to band Bonnie’s new baby. I think I’m going with the name Fritz. It’s growing really well.

And I checked Bugsy’s single egg and it’s developing :wee

For you experts, I hadn’t been supplying any calcium other than a small scoop of chicken layer crumbles every once in a while. I wonder if that’s why 2 girls only laid one egg each?
I’ve got a dish of oyster shell in there now.

One of the two new squeakers is huge also. They are 2 weeks now and I have set up the same cage to protect them as I used for Loper and 735.View attachment 1799443 View attachment 1799444 View attachment 1799448 View attachment 1799451
As it turned out 1743 does not have splayed leg as you can see from the photo with wings extended. 1744 does have a small pocket of pus like @backyard pigeons bird, but no scab/opening yet.
wow! They are big. Do you think it's going to need 'surgery'?

Now try offering a few rabbits:gig:lau:oops:
good idea!:thumbsup

I hope they return. I know how that feels. I'm sure at least 2 will return.

How are all your eggs and squabs?

I dont think it was because of the limited supply of calcium. They would most likely lay 2eggs with the 2nd ones shell being thin. How many birds are you at now?

Yes, likely will as bird pus is too solid to drain. I hope to wait for a scab like opening to develop as I'm reluctant to make an incision. I'll get your detailed advice on how to delicately pull that out.:)

x2:)

I found a few feather lice on Frodo and Sam today which is no biggie because I already have some drops for external parasite prevention being shipped to me right now. I had been giving their parents the borax baths and inspecting them but a few here and there must have survived. The Ivermectin should kill them.
Also here's some information about the infamous pigeon feather louse, if you're weird like me and want to read about them :p
