Pigeon Talk

For everyone who breeds and then either sells/gives away their pigeons, how do you get the word out there? I'm not really trying to make a profit, I would just enjoy having a flock and then giving away whatever babies come out of it.
Word of mouth is something that happens in time. You can advertise on Craigs list. The word spreads as more peeps acquire your pigeon thru adds. I'm not on Facebook, but understand there is an add option there.
Welcome to this thread,,,,, and :welcome

Yea I was afraid it wouldn’t molt out. I don’t mind that they aren’t show quality. At least I’ll know to list any mismarked ones as pet quality.

And I will still breed them. I have a few cochins that aren’t perfect, and throw less than perfect offspring. But I just know to sell the lesser quality ones for less money. It actually comes in handy to have some for the folks that just want pets.

An FYI for anyone looking for cheap peanuts for their birds.
I order my regular seed mix from Chewy and saw they also had these 5lb bags of peanuts for wild birds. At around 7 bucks I think it was a pretty good deal.

However my birds don't seem to care very much for them at all. I tried broken and whole pieces and the consensus was negative. If I can't convince them to try them at least I can give them to the wild birds.

Mine won't eat peanuts either. However, I quite like them so I have them as a snack of my own!
They will do backflips for sunflower hearts though!

Mine go crazy for chicken pellets so I'll just stick to using those for treats. For some reason they also absolutely love the split peas that break in the bag and come out of the shell, far more than the whole shelled peas.

thanks! Mine don't eat nearly enough to buy more than 5 pounds. I got them to like them after whistling and feeding them like regular food once, after that they seem to like them.

I didn't know you have rollers!

Lol I have been away from this thread for awhile! Update though: I sold all my homers just this weekend to focus on my poultry as I set up a more organized and breed specific set ups for my chickens. In turn im down to ONE pigeon! My male Figurita Wallace.
Now I must convince him to become a proper house pet after all 5 years of his life has been loft living.

Like @backyard pigeons I give some chopped peanuts mixed with reg food and they seem to develop a liking very quickly. Doba sat on my lap today for the first time after watching #738 getting peanuts by sitting there.

I used to buy 20 pound bags for $20 at Menards. This was to feed my squirrels. It is marketed as Wild Bird Food. The squirrels did eat it, but not as intensely, as eating BOSS. I get 50 pounds of that for $20. My squirrels do backflips over that:gig
So down here at the cave this is the purpose of peanuts.
