Took them inside to band today. The paper towel was originally to stop them from pooping on the floor but I decided to leave it in there like a blanket. Mom and Dad kept them warm and dry during the ice storm we had yesterday

Oh my gersh, how cute! Already banding time? They still look so tiny. Good job, Mom and Dad!

stunning! I personally am not a fan of cochins (no offence) but that one is definitely pretty. They aren't very heat hardy, right? How big do bantam cochins get?
I have two Cochin bantams. Speckle is the same as WVs and millie is a ginger/orange colour. I'm not sure of the exact colour name  she fits perfectly in the palm of my hand. She is quite small but is the sweetest thing. Speckle had a broken leg when I rescued her from a farm. She is bigger. Not much though!

Sweet! Do you bring them in at night or does mum cover them well enough at night?

They were five days old yesterday. That's probably too early but I like to try to band them around day 5 or 6 and if they slip off I'll just try again. They seemed to fit pretty well though and o wouldn't be surprised if I didn't have to do it again.
Can u weigh them? AtbandingI had one at 110 grs and one at 190. I think Iposted about it afew days ago. One of yours looks smaller too...?
Sometimes the parents focus most on only one nestling, causing the loss oftheother.
The one in the front is definitely slightly bigger but theres also some unintentional forces perspective in that picture. They both had full crops when I took them out yesterday and the parents are definitely feeding both of them reasonably well. If the gap between the two starts to increase and the smaller one falls behind I'll intervene but I don't think I'll have to :)

They've been doing a good job keeping them warm, I have a small rabbit feeder type thing installed on the wall across from the nest box so mom and dad don't have to go into the aviary to eat which helps I think.

I try to band at 5-6 days also. I was sure the band would come off the 110 gram baby but it stayed!

Good to hear ! You know what you are doing.:thumbsup

I also try to keep some seeds near the nest.

Sorry, answers embedded in the quote.

No offense taken ;) They aren't for everyone, but they've always been one of my favorite breeds. Mine must be a little larger than @CCUK 's (post some pics, man!) I have a few smaller ones, but mostly I'd say their bodies are about the size of a volleyball/soccer ball. Males can get a little larger. My main dude is probably closer to basketball size. They are generally a very sweet breed, and fantastic broodies. I have around 40 of them now. And they seem to do fine in all weather. I haven't noticed any temperature issues.
