Here my two little Cochin. They are such sweet hens! Millie is the little itty bitty one in the middle! You can see how small she is!

And this is speckle. She had a broken leg that didn't heal correctly before I stole rescued her.

She limps about but she can sure move fast when she wants!

:love I love them! They both look basically mille fleur based, but not totally SOP correct. Millie is probably what we would call "calico". MF is a complicated pattern, lots of genes to get right. That's why I ended up sticking with blue/black/splash + mottled in my bantam cochins. I had a gorgeous MF rooster, but never found any good hens, so I sold him.

I'm sure @Pyxis can elaborate better than me. :D

They really are sweet hens. We call millie a 'pocket hen' as she is so small! They were both bought by a friend a couple of years back as chicks. She never really cared for them, so I did actually ask if I could have them. Speckle was in a bad way when I first got her but I got her as good as possible. I had heard that she was supposed to be a millie fleur and assumed millie, hence the name, was the same. Calico is the same as some cats too, isn't it? I like it! I'd definitely have more one day, they haven't got a nasty bone in them. Such sweet, funny little hens!

I had a blue hen named Ash that was super small. And super sweet! Now my only really small one is the only one I've ever hatched with a crooked beak. Its not so much crossed, but bends to one side of her face lol She still eats and drinks fine, but I think her slight disability stunted her growth a bit. I actually intended to breed them for the smaller ones, but never put them into breeding pens, so I get whatever I get. I do have 2 separate pens of them though.

From my understanding, Calico was a term created when the MF colors are almost right, just not quite perfect. Or maybe its missing the mahogany gene? or something like that. I have a friend that breeds them beautifully!
I actually met her through BYC. But I don't think she frequents the site much anymore. I think the color combinations are stunning though.

They are beautiful :love there does seem to be alot of mille fleur and calico colours amongst them. More than most other breeds I think.

Coopers grabbed a bird. I scared it. Bird got away. I retrieved bird. It has two cuts, and it's leg is injured. I haven't felt any breaks. It's pretty shook up. Please help! Anything will help! It can fly petty well. i really don't want to cull it, but be honest with me what you would do.

So sorry. :hugs I would clean the wounds with saline and chlorhexidine or saline and betadine, then I would cover the wounds with Neosporin. And I would keep it in a hospital cage for at least 5 days.
