One of my birds recently died with not much warning. When I found it there was discharge around the eyes and around the vent the feathers were bound together by poop, it almost looked like a log. The bird had been slightly poofed up the past 2 days but since it's getting colder I ignored it. It's appetite was very good. Another thing about it was that its ceres were unusually large, but not by much. Any ideas to what that could be?

I let my birds out for a fly today. Later than I would have liked but they had no feed since last night. Well I thought that would be enough to get them all back in quickly when I wanted. What I didn't anticipate was the impending rain cloud! They were out the best part of 20mins then it started raining, they flew through it well enough then I wanted them in. 7 came straight back but the other five had other ideas....spa day!

They loved it! It took about half an hour for them to finish! Admittidley I just left them to it! They seemed happy enough!

My best guess would be some type of bacterial or viral infection. It would be best to send the deceased body to the state lab for necropsy.

No, sorry.
I realize that birds are notoriously hard to diagnose, because fluffing up and green, slimy poop is a fairly universal symptom. Thanks the ideas, but without pictures and a research lab I think it's very hard to be certain.

What breed do you have? I haven't been paying attention, but they look like homers.

I realize that birds are notoriously hard to diagnose, because fluffing up and green, slimy poop is a fairly universal symptom. Thanks the ideas, but without pictures and a research lab I think it's very hard to be certain.

They are all homers. One is a feral youngster that got injured and I'm hoping will stay with them when they fly. He hasn't been out yet.
