Oh yeaah! Those are nice nest fronts. Are you ordering them ready-made or doing your own? Four should be fine. Forgot to tell you howmuch I enjoyed the last photo group.

Thanks! I ordered some stuff from Foys yesterday (already got email that they are on the truck out for delivery today )
But I didn’t order the fronts. I think I can make them cheaper. I have a drill press and a bunch of dowel rods. I made this little perch for my budgies, surely I can handle something for the pigeons.

You will have 8 birds to start. In a perfect world that's four pairs - so plan to add more boxes later?

That’s what I was thinking, leave space to add more later.
How often are they brooding at the same time? How many sets do a normal pair raise each year?

I'm sure you can make them cheaper and better - you have the tools and the skills. Maybe I can talk to you about making some for me. lol

I took some measurements last night, and worked on a design to remodel one chicken coop/run for the new pigeons. Probably eventually move them all to that pen, so I can keep the smaller pen for bachelor roosters.

Thinking of doing something like these, 2x2 instead of vertical though. 4 boxes should be enough to start, huh?

As with size of coops/lofts, bigger/more is always better. Some cocks will claim more that one nest area. Not certain about Satinettes. My rollers were not bad, but some of my Homer cocks were real over aggressive.

Wondering if Boomer has a mate yet?

No. She seems to be a free spirit! I had hoped she would pair up with the first bird I lost. He was the same year and he tried so hard to woo her. Then I hoped she would pair up with lucky but he then paired up with Doris.

My oldest is from 2015. The others three are from 2016 I believe I need to write down their band numbers on a spread sheet I'm am thinking these birds may not fly. Once I get young birds I may let them fly to their old loft. It's not too far and I know the owner. Fingers crossed though that they will rehome.

Well it would be worth a try sometime. If there old loft isn't to far and it's not a problem to collect them if they don't return. I definately let them have a couple of rounds of squabs first though.

I'd say that if you just left them alone to breed, they could probably have 8-10 squabs easy. Maybe a couple more with the correct loft conditions.
