Pigeon Talk

Do you wrap that loft up with a tarp or anything to keep them warm? We don't get that cold and I'm just beside myself animals live through it. We got to 37 deg last night and I was super worried.
I just try to keep the roosts draft free. I did have to cover a ventilation area bc two of my birds started roosting up there. Think about the adjustable down coat they wear. In cold they fluff they outer feathers increasing the thickness of the down layer for an increased R factor. They seem to do better in cold than extreme heat/humidity. On sunny days above 32° I will even put out the bath water for them. I used to live in CA and I guarantee it will never get too cold for your birds!:D
I also feed extra in cold temps.

How many more?!

CCuk I did see boomer than. Soo cute!!! And I like sqeak also! Where did sqeak come from?
Yeah boomer has a special place in my heart! Squeak is from mama1 and papa1. The first pairs I got. She was the first hatch I had. Sadly mama1 did a flit and didn't return from a loft flight. Squeak is now paired up with papa1, her pops! I don't really like it, not quite right but nowt I can do about it!

That's crazy but glad to know. They do look super fat when it's cold out. My kids love it.

I got the new loft done (need to make a base still). I had to pirate hinges from my old loft so I had to move the birds before the new base is done. I'm going to demo the old loft this weekend, get the new base built and place the new loft where the old loft was. Moved the birds in yesterday and they seem to be happy. There are more perches so everyone seems happy. Going to get started on breeding boxes this weekend.

It looks great! :thumbsup The only thing that might be worth changing is using hardware cloth on the doors instead of chicken wire. It will be alot more secure.

Very nice! :clap

X2 on what CCUK said about the hardware cloth, especially if you have any raccoons and other vermin around.:)
