@Fields Mountain Farm its getting warm! My pigeons are breeding! When are you getting yours? Is the loft build still a prob? Do you have any old chicken coops that you could get a year of breeding out of? Then build a better suited loft? Have you decided on a breed?

@Pyxis I can't remember if you discovered what caused twistys twisted neck. I was looking for something earlier and came across this. https://www.northstardoves.com/pages/pigeon-diseases. If you go to the part about salmonellosis (paratyphoid) it can also cause twisted neck. The rest of the site is quite interesting too.

It's well layed out and easy to reference things. It covers most problems I think. The only ones it doesn't will probably be the ones I get!

I was working on a front for Trips nest box, but got to wondering if it’s actually necessary. Is blocking them off more for protection that the squab doesn’t get out, or that other adults don’t get in?

How do you mean blocking off? Are you putting a ledge on it or a door/hatch? I'd leave it open. So long as when they first come out there not dropping onto the floor I should think they will be OK.

Depends on your individual needs. The loft dynamics will dictate if there is an issue with adults harrassing the nesting pair - not too likely, or if you want the babies to stay in the box until you decide they're safe on the floor, or when you HAVE to know the parentage of squabs - for this you must lock the pair in prior to mating. Does this help? btw I don't have fronts on mine.

It does help. Thanks. It all makes perfect sense really. I wasn't concerned when Bugsy hatched, but this next set has the additional birds involved. So far, I haven't seen any messing with Trip, so I think I'll have the box-front ready, just in case, but I doubt I'll need it.
