Pigeon Talk

Before I came back and read the last couple of pages, I tried again. And I tried to get it on video, so you all can tell me what to do better. I alternated a minute or two each, before I started the video. They were kinda fighting over it, so I can definitely see how one squeaker would end up getting more from the parents. :D

You are doing fine. Tip the bottle up a bit to ensure the formula fills the bottom. Picture the parent pointing down and squab reaching up. Some squabs you need to give them a break to breath in between. I would let the squab take as much as he wanted then wait a minute while wiping spilt formula from face, lol, then offer more. When full they will refuse.
It appears they are getting the mixture down well. Doo was much bigger at that age but his weight incr by 30-40 grams per feed then dropped back before the next one.

My scales are some of my best poultry investments!

X2! Though I use mine more for weighing and tracking weight loss on eggs, especially emu and goose eggs, than I do for weighing birds, but when I have a bird that's not doing well it is super useful to be able to get a weight on it.

Well, I've not hand raised any squabs, but if I do, I will weigh them.

I probably should weigh sick birds though, just haven't done it before. Now I need to go find a scale! Lol

This is something else I first learned from Kathy. Always weigh any bird that may have any issue eating, to monitor whether they are gaining, losing, or staying about the same. I weigh any time I bring any bird inside for pretty much any reason, if nothing else than a baseline number or for later reference.

I had a scale that I didn’t like, it was touch screen, and every time I stood a bird on it, their feet would touch a button and change modes! :D
So someone suggested this one, and I ordered it from Amazon and love it!

they are great for all thing poultry and I have started weighing food too. You would be surprised to find out how many frozen meals don't weigh what the box says! It might seem petty, but a few times we have sent emails to the mfg's of these frozen meals complaining we shorted and so far, all have sent coupons, lol.

Great, thanks. I really didn’t know when to stop! But watching them swallow was so cool!
I did try to clean them up afterwards, they are sleeping soundly now. Seem pretty content.

I was just thinking I better take them to work with me tomorrow :p

I think so too- just to 'keep them under observation'. Good night, I'll look for an update tomorrow.

I got 4 peas down each squeaker, and will keep working on them all day.

I also pulled the dead egg from under Clyde (he didn’t even object!) his baby is super tiny, omg!

Did an eggtopsy, and it kinda appears to have had a yolk sac infection. It’s more green than it should be, at least for chicks or ducks. @casportpony
Did it smell like infection?

That's a great video. You can actually see the crop get bigger! They're doing great and you're doing great with them! They're gonna be fine!

I put rings on my two yesterday and at 4 days they were still too small. One ring came off so I'll try again tonight. I will weigh them. How much should they weigh at this age? They do seem small for 4 days.
