Chickens carry diseases without symptoms that kill coturnix.

I know of a few peeps on the Illinois Thread that keep, and kept quail alongside chickens. None were dying. I guess they have healthy chickens. .. Their quail are in cages in same coops. One also keeps some turkey poults as well as a few ducks.

I ment to tell you earlier, cots need to reach a criteria weight by a particular age before being considered jumbo. I had to take nyquil tonight so i cant quote but i bet you could easily find it and id love to know what she weighs.

My quail are in close proximity, use the chickens to clean up their feed and i have had the npip inspection and cert without any trouble. Cant wanna debate it tonight without my faculties in place. My flock has been closed a long time and i guess theyre just healthy.

If someone has a certified disease tested flock its probably not a concern.

I don't know if Cleo weighs enough to be classed as jumbo but I think she comes from a large meat bird line. She is heavier than Olive. But i don't have a scale.

I will PM you proof of my certification now. She even tested my buttons and all 4 type and breed are listed on the cert. Cant prove i havent done a whole ton of moving cages but man i swear to you my chickens aren't killin my quail. Must be they just dont have any of the diseases that spread to em.

Coryza is what can kill quail. If your chickens dont have it then I dont know how the quails catch it. I kept quail but they were away from my chickens and never had a problem.
@cavemanrich have you thought about an A frame? I had a small one that I kept quail in and just moved it around for them. They did fine. I also had a couple of 4x2' rabbit runs. The thing with quail is that they fly vertically! Then off to the side. I had a couple of occurances of the quail hurting their heads flying up. They only really did this if they got spooked by something.

@mixedUPturk she took flight today. First she stepped off the edge of a table and then got spooked when I went to pick her up. But she only got about 12 inches up and about 2 feet horizontal. Then just stood there confused.

Ey, man, I didn't write the rules and research on bird harrying. Feel free to just link to the APHIS website directly. Now that you've read my post and you know, it's your knowledge too! Spread it around.

I find a lotta people rally on about how wildlife protection laws make every predator untouchable and you just have to let your livestock die and hope they cut you a check but it's super not true. When you dig into them there's a lot of leeway and most of what they prevent is trophy and fur hunting. So I just like people to be educated on the actual rules, not the exaggerated ones.
