Well, the pigeon's egg isn't fertile, but it being tiny, I wasn't surprised. I've let them keep it for now. I just want to wait until it's warmed up a little more and then I'm moving them to the loft. I don't want them to start nesting again in their cage in the garage.

I feel bad for you, I never realized the fancy breeds just aren't as prolific breeders as the racing homers. The pair I'm allowing to sit have produced 3 eggs for this clutch!

Welp I'm moving to Texas in a month, just went out of town for a week to find both my pairs sitting on fertile eggs again I think if the babies hatch it'll be about 19 days before our 3 day roadtrip to the new house. If so what's the likely hood I'll have to feed them myself those 3 days? Or will mom and dad still feed them while all crated up and stressed? Babies may not even hatch but all eggs are alive as of last night

Do they live in that cage partially visible in the photo? And will they be travelling in a smaller, pet carrier type thing? If so, you might try placing them in the carrier for brief periods prior, even with some food and water so they are accustomed to it.

Had to refloor the room the pigeons were in so they got moved to our dog room were our cat also frequents, kinda assumed the cages being carried through the house to a totally different room might throw them off enough to dump their eggs(especially cause Cannoli is nesting on the cloth cage floor) but nope, as of this evening they're still sitting tight. I'm still expecting Soup to ditch, but she sat a full 19days last clutch!(shocking for her, i know, it why I gave her fakes!!) So we'll see how they do whith the dogs coming and going, the cat could care less thank god

@biophiliac yes, all my adult birds are great travelers and get regular vet checks in a fabric shaded carrier whith safety harnesses, I figure I'll start introducing the babies (if I get any) w/ a parent to comfort them and use food motivation if they're already on solids. And maybe put the carrier in their cage so they can explore at their leisure

The arcs seem to be the same. Sophiel has layed a second egg. I will leave them under her but I'm not convinced they are fertile. I haven't seen them 'doing the deed'! I will candle the eggs in a couple of days and see what's going on.

Just checked the fantails and the little one has hatched At least something is hatching!!

This is mum. Not the one that hatched it!

She's not much of a fantail so it will be interesting to see how this one grows.

I would love to see my birds flying high like that! But it would probably be the last time I saw them.


So, Duff's babies haven't hatched yet, but I'm thinking any day now.
Trip laid her second egg Saturday or Sunday, so now she's on two.


AND.... I found a hidden nest of 2 eggs, roughly half-way to hatch! I checked last night to see who was sitting on them, and its #91-Brick! With Skye and Bugsy nearby. So I really think these 3 have formed their own trio! How normal or unusual is that??? I'm going to pay more attention at different times throughout the day and see how they handle sitting duty.

They don't return because of taste of FREEDOM,,,,,
They don't return for the other obvious reason,,,,,,,

I do not know much about Satinette Pigeon behavior, but assume they could be loft flied.
I had White Homers, that were hatched in my loft,,,,, that did this on their FIRST release,,,and then this,,,,,,,,,,, and never seen again..
In hindsight,,, I know I did not properly homeset them.

Funny thing happened over the weekend. DW and I were traveling in car. About 2 miles from home is a place where a LARGE flock (300+) of ferals hangs out. They all took flight as we were passing.
