Piglet HELP!

Pigs love whey, if you know of any cheesemakers in your area they always have literally tons of gallons of whey to get rid of.

I'd keep him. He's cute! After he's past the milk stage and a little bigger you can feed him anything. Table scraps, stale donuts, old garden veggies...also check with bakeries -- sometimes they through out lots of stale bread every week.

I would judge that pig to be about 3 weeks old. They will do just fine on baby pig starter that is laced with dried whey and dried milk. Check with your feed store and they can help you find the right food. You may have to mix it with water to make a gruel of sorts to get it started off. Three weeks is a bit soon to wean but it is possible for them to survive. You can also buy baby pig milk replacer and try to bottle feed it. A regular baby bottle will work. You may need to enlarge the hole with a hot needle if it seems like enough is not coming out. Bottle feeding baby pigs isn't hard but it is time consuming. If you can get it to just eat the baby pig starter, you can do away with the milk replacer. Good luck! You can pm me with questions if you like.

I know it's a baby, it looks like a 6-8 week old "baby" mini! Now I don't really have any experience with large breed pigs, so I'm only going by what I have had (minis). I'd just assume full sized piglets would be alot bigger then the minis. And if it is a full sized I couldn't imagine it being more then a few weeks, and I'd think it'd still need milk (we fed the minis human baby formula).

I have a quick question.
I have been taking care of the runt of a liter of piglets for a month now. I feed her goats milk with some baby rice formula. Everything has been going great until recently, when she gained a huge amount of weight. And she is breathing heavily. She is still very active.
I was wondering if the weight gain is normal and how much food should I be giving her and how often?

I have been feeding her three times a day every four hours.

I can't help you much. The heavy breathing would concern me. How is her temperature? You want to rule out pneumonia.

At four weeks she should be eating some solid food. It has been a long time since I had pigs but I used to get some food formulated for baby pigs and I mixed it with milk. The one time I had no milk and mixed it with water instead my orphan baby pig screamed bloody murder. He never did shut up until I got some milk. Had to go to the neighbor's and borrow some.

I would go to the feed store and buy some pig chow and start feeding it. If you keep doing that for about 5 months you will have a 250 lb porker that you can put in your freezer.

Her temp is normal. I will Try getting some solid food and putting a little milk in it.
She is a kunekune runt so she won't get very big. she is going to be a pet so I don't want her to get over weight. With kunekune pigs if they get over weight they have leg and heart problems. I don't want that to happen to her.

I have started thickening her milk and she is not heavy breathing as bad as she was. So maybe the milk was getting into her lungs?

Just thought I would update you guys on the pig.
She is breathing normal now. I have introduced her to solid food with milk in it, she loves it!!
She is still way fatter thane her siblings. I hope that isn't a sign of something bad.

Thank you for letting us know. You say she is fat. Is she fat all over or just in the belly?
