I keep it right at 52 then go to about 68 to 70 the last few days this was about the 7th time I have used the in incabater Harris Farms Nurture Right 360 I have had really good Consistent Hatching.
That seems fine. I was just thinking those hard membranes could be shrinkwrapping

@PippinTheChicken,
We have two broody hens, and one was sitting on a black copper Maran's egg,
It is on day 24 and hasn't internally pipped yet, even though it is fully developed when you candle it. The broody originally sitting on it got off when her three other chicks hatched. We have it to the second broody and she just keeps rolling it out of her nest. Do you think it is bad? When candled it also has something that looks like liquid in the air cell.

Thanks for Welcoming me!

Noah

Welcome to the thread! Unfortunately that doesn't sound good. It would be great if you could send some pictures of candling it. But sadly it sounds dead, especially if it has liquid in the air cell. Congratulations on the other chicks!

Thanks! I kind of suspected that. I'm a bit wary of doing a safety hole, because I have done it before, and the egg was rotten and exploded before I actually managed to get in. I'll read your article, thanks again!

Lots of people ask me about the things I know a lot about so I've decided ot make a thread where you can ask me questions about any of these things:
  • Broody hens
  • Hatching
  • Helping to hatch
  • Raising chicks
  • Saving weak chicks
  • Sexing silkies
  • Raising chickens (specifically bantams) in general
  • Any other advice
Please ask away! You can also post links to threads (your threads or someone else's) about any of those topics so I can find them and help out!

If you know about these stuff too, feel free to answer some as well. @Silkie Princess you know about broodies, and @LadiesAndJane you know about silkie sexing.

Hopefully we can end up with a large gathering of information so newbies can stop by and learn!
Any guesses on this 1-2 week old silkie bantam? Also does it feathers look normal? The wing feathers seem very thin? This is my first silkie bantam. Thanks!

I have a question on silkie chicks. I have 2 and 3 week olds and a lot of them have really big legs and feet. Like they almost look too big for the chick. Could that mean they'll be roosters?
Also some 2 week olds already seem to be slightly developing combs (they look raised and are getting lighter in color).

I have a post where I try to guess which will be roos and I'll update every week with new guesses until I can tell. There I've posted pictures of my chicks (the 2nd reply are recent pictures)

I've been using a Hovabator 62n for a long time and I only ever get a 50% hatch rate. Where would you start on figuring out why? Is it simply the lack of a fan?
