Agreed. I believe this is a Sapphire Gem cockerel.It's my understanding that with this breed, males will be barred. So I think you may have a Sapphire Gem, but a cockerel.

I've seen a lot of posts where people get cockerels instead of pullets with this breed. It's a shame for the people who can't keep them. They're beautiful birds.Agreed. I believe this is a Sapphire Gem cockerel.
You SHOULD be able to tell at birth male from female. If you see a white dot on the top of the head of the chicken, that will indicate it's male.I've seen a lot of posts where people get cockerels instead of pullets with this breed. Mistakes happen! I think there was such a rush to get chicks out to the public because they were all sold out that they were less attentive.
