Poll: What Treat do your Chickens go Crazy over?

My Seramas favorite treats are parakeet seed, boiled/scrambled eggs, and greens. I have yet to find a treat the ducks like, other than their normal feed. The other chicks like scratch, and just about anything you give them...as long as it's food.

Over all I think my chickens favorite treats are boiled eggs. My Splash Jersey Giant hen, Lizzy, will come running up to me and jump up in the air to snatch the treat. Goofy girl!!

hmm I guess i just never thought about a chicken eating chicken or pig or cow... not that it matters i just usually feed all that to my pet Pot belly pig Percy... yes i know the pork dinners

Soli: my chickens have snuck a kibble or two out of the barn cats food but we usually try to prevent it , I have read about cat food being a good protein supplement for peacocks (not sure if its true) but this always made me think it would have too much protein or whatnot for chickens.. either way im sure in moderation it doesnt hurt..


see this is why polls are great- i just learned that meat and cat food make a good chicken treat.. im sure my chickens will appreciate this new found knowledge..

some people say what you feed them can affect the taste of the egg so now i am left with this question for soli :
do the eggs from your chickens taste like meow mix ?

None of the above. My free rangers, including a peacock, just love cat food. They are insanely, irrevocably dedicated to cat food. I feed it every morning as a treat, and I get the equivalent of a flock of crack addicts literally knocking on the front door waiting for me to come out with their "fix".

Is that dry cat food or wet?

Mine love nothing more than melon. any melon and they go insane. There is nothing left but a paper thin rind in a couple hours.

Face it. Most chckens aren't picky. They'll eat almost anything.

My spoiled girls go crazy over diced onion. Red is their preferred, but white and yellow do just fine. They have eaten so much onion that I can smell it on their breath. Strangely, my eggs don't seem to loose or gain any flavour with them eating that much onion.
