Oh I almost forgot! Another ?
Lets say Clyde and darla are both female and the eggs are not fertile then what? Do THEY know the difference between fertile and non fertile eggs? Will they eventually just give up and leave them or will I need to take them away?
Once again I've not seen them mate, but they have become elusive and i do not see their every move..............I have spied on them and caught the two of them being "loving" towards one another in the pool yet I've never seen Clyde attempt to mount darla. It's almost as if they're waiting for the other to make the move. I can say that darla does seem to become inpatient and will "poke" Clyde and pick gently at him/her.
Another footnote! My 1 yr old female white crested duck who has laid many eggs and had two babies of her own has mounted darla and attempted to mate her (odd I know) and has attempted to mount Clyde with no luck. not because clyde minded but because she just couldn't get on him/her.
Darla was all to cooperative and let her get right in her.....ugh? Help! What is going on with my flock?!

Your flock isnt weird. Sometimes ducks/geese will try to mate with each other on occasion. There are a lot of similar stories like yours posted throughout this forum.

If you have 2 females, I dont think they'll know the difference as to whether or not the eggs are fertile - they may still go broody & try to hatch out goslings, even though their eggs are duds. If the eggs aren't fertile, you should probably take them away, as it'll be a waste of an egg that you could be eating - but its up to you. A sure way to tell if you have 2 females (i dont remember if someone already wrote this or not) is if you find 2 eggs in one day, as they lay 1 egg typically every other day.

Wow that's interesting! I did not know that! Problem is there are 11 eggs in the nest and I have no idea who laid them, or if one or two at a time. It does however seem that Clyde is the only one sitting on the nest......he/she typically goes to sit on it at night, and pays no never mind to it during the day.
If I do take the eggs away, will Clyde continue to just keep laying eggs? I wonder if they wonder where the eggs went and feel a loss? Silly I know, I worry way too much about them, they're my babies and want them to be happy and healthy.

If you take the eggs away they will keep laying them. But do not take all of the just leave a few in there. Take a pencil out with you and the ones you leave in there number them and mark the date on them.

If you only leave two eggs in the nest and say you get an egg a day geese only lay one egg every other day. If one is in there ever day then you have 2 females.

The verdict is in! Clyde is really clydette! Forgive me it's going to be hard for me to refer to him as a her, he's been a he since a day old......anyway, he/she laid an egg yesterday and there was another today, so that says it all......now what? Take out the eggs each day? I have to do it when they're out foraging, I feel guilty if I do it when they can see me... Silly I know, apparently I think they think like humans? I would hate for clydette to come in to his/her nest and freak out cuz all eggs are gone each day. Will she quit laying? I wonder too why darla isn't laying? She stands RIGHT next to clydettes nest while he/she is on it and they TALK about it! LOTS of loud WHOOONKING..... What do you suppose that means? Anything? I'd love to know what all their different sounds mean, I "think" I know but who really knows?
Now that I know I've got two ladies I find it humorous when I watch them in the pool......not mounting/mating attempts, just nussling, quiet long stares at one another......rather than husband and wife, they are the non-traditional "same-sex" couple and I'm perfectly good with that! I love them unconditionally!
A BIG thanks to all who bothered with my silly post. I REALLY REALLY LOVE this site, I get trapped on here for hours, reading, crying, laughing out loud and cheering!

Well goose eggs make nice omelets, My goose seemed to think she could only lay her eggs in the duck house which is across the path from her house, so I thought if I ever let her sit I don't want her to do it in the duck house so day before yesterday when she laid I took her egg and put it in hers and my ganders stall inside their house just to see if she would lay in there, and guess what this morning she laid in their stall. I was so happy. so when I go to put them up tonight the eggs are still there because I want to be sure she keeps laying there anyway they both go in and stand over the eggs [which are covered but they know where they are]

and start honking and carrying on like no bodies business, it was so funny. Too bad we can't talk goose I would have loved to have known what they were saying. And congrats on your eggs. Looking forward to seeing pics of Darla and Clydette.

If your goose really wants to sit and you want more Pomeranians, you might consider getting some fertile eggs to put under her! I know a ton of people willing to sell fertile eggs, although quite a few of them are in the upper mid-west and their geese have not started laying for the year yet. Let me know which color you are interested in, buff or grey, and I will send you some contact information.
