I think we have a preemi, started pipping yesterday morning externally the wrong end was no progress so pierced a tiny hole in membrane so it had air, left all day under mum, last night a lot of shell picked off, we think by mum, but she was pecking too hard and we saw blood, she had already had 2 die half out of shell so we gave the egg to another mum we have who has just successfully hatched 2, she had a look and pulled it under her, this morning no progress really, a bit more membrane torn, still peeping, wriggling but membrane hard and dry, we now have it inside with us, we wet the membrane he's under a lamp at 35 degrees and we're keeping moist, seems to want to hatch but there's still blood vessels visible but no yolk, not opened eyes but peeping away...is it early because of the blood or is a little to be expected? don't know whether to break it completely out think it's getting tired!? Help!

I have no idea what to do. But since others have died taking it off the mother might be best.
Ive never had a chick born early but when they are half out of the shell they would die as they didnt hatch properly.
The mother then would toss it to one side.

Best thing is to see how it gets on inside. Keepit warm, check on it from time to time.

As with the mother, check on her too like every half hour to see what shes up to.

We have been successful removing the inner membrane only after all blood has been absorbed by the chick. If it is bloody, don't peel. They need to absorb it. Keep the membrane wet until no blood is present. If you attempt to peel away the outer and inner membranes, Be careful, do it in a warn setting and keep the chick warm after.
I wish you and your chick the nest..:)
:welcome

Leave it. If there are blood vessels still active he will bleed out if he hatches.

35* is a bit chilly. Can you get it up to 37.2*?

Ducks take a long while to hatch, especially ones that pip on the wrong end. Please, don't rush this, or you might well lose him.

Thanks everyone for your comments, little one seems to be hanging in there, thanks @BantyChooks for your advice have increased the temperature (degrees Celsius!) keeping moist as well, it's now wriggled its leg free a bit, we can see now the umbilical is still attached, there have been signs of eyes starting to open, fingers crossed for the little thing! Any more advice to help it out is greatly appreciated!

Great! Biggest thing is to WAIT. Don't hurry, don't rush. If you think it's ready, then still don't touch it for longer. Waiting a bit too long won't kill it. Waiting a little bit too little will.

It can breathe, so right now it just needs to sit there and absorb those blood vessels. You might have problems with it kicking out too early, so watch it.

Think I've seen a post on here similar but it's now completely out of the shell but Umbilical is still attached, it's head and neck are quite floppy, but it's still trying to move around and peeping lots, rest of him seems strong, does anyone know how long the cord will take to detach?? Worried he's going to tear from it too soon now he's out! Also how/when to feed and water it??!

What does the umbilical cord look like? If it doesn't look like a live vein you can cut it. Don't let him drag it around.

He doesn't need food and water until at least 24 hours after. I suggest Purina All Flock crumble.
