As a former truck driver, I don't think it was the PO. The contract driver had to stop over for dinner and movie and a movie and another movie. A one day trip took three days! It dropped to the 20's that night.
Have some hatching eggs ordered, but requested the breeder bring them with him to the April 3, Eldorado show. Had already ordered the eggs when I noticed he was judging the show....just 45 minutes away. I trust his driving better than a contract driver.
On the bright side, have added my own packing peanuts to the replacement order: American Buff geese!
I posted the info at

As a former USPS contract driver, I can tell you that 1. the majority of drivers who are contracted are daycab drivers. Thus they only have an 11 hour work day. 2. These loads are shags. They are not direct P.O. to P.O. runs. 3.lots of things delay delivery.
It is completely unfair to blame the drivers, they deliver what they are hired to deliver. Many things could have caused your delay. It is sad that the chicks died, but without a real explination for the delay, no one should be pointing fingers or making exagerated claims.
Weather, accidents, waiting for another driver's shipment, illness, flat tires or other mechanical failure, reduction of shipments, etc, etc, etc........
I also know for a fact the USPS has been cutting runs and delaying deliveries to consolidate freight in an attempt to save money. I lost my job due to this very thing. The USPS cut my run from MA to FL. 9 drivers lost thier livlihood because of this cut back. And, these are happening all over the country. Where they think that mail is going, I don't know. What I do know is because of these run cuts, it takes longer for mail to get from point A to point B. Even chicks. THAT is NOT the driver's fault.
Lastly, as a former driver, you are undoubtably aware the DOT continues to change the rules for the HOS. So regardless of the run being only a day's drive away, if the driver was out of hours, he is out of hours and thus MUST shut down. And, what that driver does or does not do on his legally required break is his business and is completely irrelevant to the situation.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss of birds.
