PROBIOTICS for you and your chickens

Ginny, when you find a no knead bread that you like, post it for me would you? I'm looking for one good master recipe for white and one for wheat. Then I'll put in herbs or vary it each time I bake a portion of it. If I find a good one, I'll share too.

I think it will be tart for the first few times that you make it so probably the first few times just add a little sugar or honey or Agave nectar to take the edge off! You could try and wait to batch # 5 and start aging in a different jar and then wait till that is a couple of days old and see if it makes a difference! IN my experience I have noticed that the higher grain to milk ratio makes it smoother too and less bitter also!

I had a quart the other day that I had almost a full cup of grains in and it was reallly mellow and thick and smooth! I thought about using Cocoa in a smoothie since real cocoa is supposed to be good for you and I am going to try and add some real molasses to some too and try that!

Let me know how you and Kiki's bread dough comes out tonight!!

I will try the whole wheat bread recipe!!! I do love good whole wheat bread and like the idea of the kefir in it!

I tried a quart with a chunk of ginger in it! I love the taste of Ginger and it was OK But probably won't do it again just didn't have the taste that I thought it would

Mine has gotten mellow enough that at the straining time I will drink a 6 oz glass after it is strained while I am adding milk and finishing the straining!! I am getting to where I really like the taste of this!! A LOT

This is the recipe i follow, from Mother EArth news! It is very delicious!! If the link doesn't work I can copy and paste the recipe. It is very easy, you just have to plan ahead!. to make uasing WW I add up to 1/3 ww flour. If I want to add more WW, I also add vital wheat gluten because I think just plain WW make a loaf that is too dense. Sometimes I add rye for a little variation. Ginny

Ernie,

I could be wrong, but tomorrow is Martin Luther King Day and I believe the post offices are closed as well as most government offices and banks. I know the kids don't have school for this reason.

Chickielady..... Thanks for the Link, I love it. Now to get to the store next week and start making my own bread and rolls. I love fresh bread and spend a fortune buying it. However, I'm not so good at making it. No knead bread is probably what I need to finally get it right.
