Everyone’s favorite chicken guessing game.
I’ll try and get pictures each week so we can see how they grow and update our guesses.

Three of the four I haven’t learned to tell apart yet- (I’m thinking pullets)

Front two in these is Peeps(left) and Stu(right)
Peeps was injured and is now smaller than the rest. I guess pullet but it might be too soon to tell because she was a bit delayed.
I think Stu is a cockerel.

Eight weeks now, they're looking good. I think I'm seeing a lot more comb development happening.

I just got a load of buff orphingtons and im fairly new to chickens. They are a week old. If your still guessing at 7 weeks I guess I have some waiting to do lol

I originally ordered 1 rooster and 8 hens but for some reason they gave me 12 buff orphingtons. So I am wondering if the extra chicks are roosters.

Really just wanted one. If they are males I hope they behave

I hear that some people can guess at an earlier age, (by how fast they get their wing feathers or something) but I'm not one of those people. I started thinking that Stu was a cockerel around six weeks, so maybe you'll be able to tell around then.

My advice is to take lots of pictures so you can see them at each milestone, I wish I started doing that earlier.
What do you think you'll do with the extra chicks? Housing twelve seems difficult, I've got eleven birds and still worry my two coops aren't big enough for them all.
Did you get them shipped from a hatchery? They might have put a few extras so they'd all stay warmer or in case a couple didn't make the transport. I hear shipping can be rough on babies sometimes.

Nine weeks old, spending a bit of time introducing them to my hens now. They all sure have gotten big.

I still stand by my guesses, I should probably tag them soon.
