Quail Hatch-a-long

Here's our little hen, Spicey, with her new babies:

There 1 wild, 1 silver, 2 cinnamons, and 1 odd coloured baby. It's not the best day for taking photos because it's dark and rainy here today.

Here's my odd ball baby compared to its wild sibling - it's got the same patterning as a wild type but has brownish/grey stripes instead of black:
View attachment 1239181 It's similar to the cinnamons but they have very orange stripes and sort of ashy, shaded stripes like this:

So so cute!!!! They are beautiful! Yes, mine is a GQF hovabator that requries you to take the whole top off too. Maybe I will add some extra water the first time I have to open it.

Good luck on hatch

Candled 250 of the quail eggs i have incubating.

My infertile rate from the tray of 50 didn't hold. Just tossed 125 that were infertile.

Most infertile were the a&ms. My bobwhites are having a much better fertile rate.

I know this is such a newbie question but, are the a&ms eggs different from bobwhites in how they look?

A&ms are the white cotournix colored birds. Their eggs are tan with the purple or brown splotches on them.

Bobwhite eggs are pure white.

Oh gotcha! Yeah I just have Cortunix so I've never seen bobwhite eggs before.

So nothing happened yesterday which means today should definitely be the day. I know they may come late but is it normal for nothing to be happening? No rocking or wiggling, no tapping? I probably shouldn't be worried so early but I just don't have much else to do today other than think about them. :p

I've once seen quail eggs rocking, and I've hatched a few batches. Normally I don't hear or see anything until they pip (and that's only because I stare and check constantly and analyse each and every egg for any sign of hatching)! Don't worry - even when I have stuff I should be doing I spend the day hovering over the incubator, getting nothing done. Perfectly normal!

Haha! Oh good. Glad its not just me! And its so good to hear that rocking and pre-pip chirping isn't as common as I thought.
