The Brown Leghorns are7 weeks old and the Red Leghorns & White orpingtons are 6 weeks old.
All except the Reds can jump/fly up onto the outdoor roost from the ground.
They all have started the chest bumping faze.
They all survived the very bad heat wave we just had.
I can hear hints of their voices changing.
None of the Browns seam to be showing signs that they are actually a rooster
( thank the Lord)
Bob Rooster, the one yr old White Leghorn crowed 3 days shy of being 8 weeks old, So I am not out of the woods on that quite yet.
But , we are now no longer baby chicks.

This morning, as I sit with my coffee ( I got up at 5:30am) I have not been out to the coop yet, I figure the chicks are 7 & 6 weeks old, can deal with the morning, I can have my coffee before I go out--☕
WELL! there has been the normal LOUD egg laying chorus being loudly sung for all in a 5 mile radius to hear--

I hear,,,,,,,,,,,, a young voice cackle/ chirp/ Peep- one of the 7week old Brown leghorns is trying to cluck Hahahahahaha

:he:rantIf the one year olds would just stop being so territorial/hen pecky/ BRATS!
and let the pullets up on the roost at night.
When the young ones go in this is what they are greeted with- so intimidating!
and when they jump up or walk up the board, they get PECKED-

They dont need the board anymore, I have a stump/ log round the I set just in front of the roost and the small Red leghorns can get up on it and then jump up, all of the rest can jump up from the floor.
So just right before it is dark, I go out, make the big hens move over and take the Brown & Red LH's & 2 White Orp.'s out of the nesting box and put them on the roost,
SUCH a pain

@Sequel -- I am cold, I am closing windows and the front door, its 60 out on the porch.

I am going to go out and close the coop windows and get them set for the night. I am just going to let the new chicks figure out the sleeping arrangements, I am not going back out to make the big hens move over.
