In sequim, They called me as soon as they got there. I have picked up chicks there at 6am.I doubt that it would tick them off with the lives of baby chicks hanging in the balance. And if they're not authorized to give them to you, you'll get them an hour later when the PO officially opens.
I heard somewhere that the post office calls the recipient as soon as chicks arrive. They must give some kind of preferential treatment for the extra $15 fee they charge for shipping live chicks.
This article from Valley Hatchery says that the post office will call you when they arrive...

Do you have your chicks yet?In sequim, They called me as soon as they got there. I have picked up chicks there at 6am.

I have the electrolytes ready and the heat on for the brooder.
I use honey and Rooster Booster electrolytes—Do you have your chicks yet?
I'm going to make an electrolyte solution from a recipe I found that included molasses, salt and baking soda, and fake salt.
1 cup warm water
2 tsp molasses
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp baking soda
and if you have it,
1/8 tsp potassium chloride (salt substitute)
Sugar can be substituted for the molasses, but I know that molasses has lots of different nutrients. Blackstrap molasses has more nutrients that molasses used for baking.

Yes!Sad for the ones that didn't make it, but most did so that's good. I'm going to the post office today and ask if/when they notify about chick deliveries.
Now your fun begins! Little chickies to manage.
It is a guarantee 72 hour delivery- I get a refund or credit for any chicks that don’t live 48 hours- you have 48 hours to report loss. I called and reported 5 with two if’ies I have a 6th and we will see what the morning brings.I stopped by the post office and they told me I'd get a call around 8am the day the chicks arrive. Does the hatchery you bought from guarantee live delivery?
