I am in Sydney!! I have 3 funnel web spiders in my back yard. No, I was responding to someone else who did suggest killing it. I grew up in Sydney with funnel web spiders so for me snakes, which I can actually see, are far less threatening than lethal black spiders I can't see.![]()
Eek wrong thing to say! I have 3 in my backyard1981 ~ not so very long ago.The females can be very aggressive & they can live under water for 3 days. You had to be careful when cleaning out the pool & the filter & they get into things like shoes & clothing. Too many close encounters. I can't stand them!
That you know of!!!I am in Sydney!! I have 3 funnel web spiders in my back yard.
I would never kill them nor would I use anything that could harm or make them angry. I am looking at some wire to stick to my coop so they don’t get to them. Brown snakes have shot fangs so wear thick jeans and they can’t bite youPlease don’t do this... the wire can harm the snake, and please don’t kill it if that is what is being implied by “in whatever way you choose”. Handle it correctly with a proper pair of tongs and a snake hook if you’re capable and going to handle it... otherwise that is what you’re paying the $200 for, expertise and safe handling of a dangerous animal. I will never complain about the cost of my vet care, my mechanic, plumber, or any other highly skilled trade, because they are doing something I either cannot or will not do.
Don’t remind me and that is in 1/2 an acre and I have another 9 and a half that I’m sure have themThat you know of!!!![]()
They like sandstone. DH was a brickie in Sydney. Laying foundations wherever there was lots of sandstone was a nightmare. Big black spiders running everywhere!Don’t remind me and that is in 1/2 an acre and I have another 9 and a half that I’m sure have them
Wonderful. I hate themThey like sandstone. DH was a brickie in Sydney. Laying foundations wherever there was lots of sandstone was a nightmare. Big black spiders running everywhere!![]()
BUT THEY ARE SO CUDDLY! Look at Kevin’s pic... don’t you just want to hug him??? Yeah, look at the claws... just because it looks cute doesn’t mean it’s friendly or safe! Letting a poor tourist get mauled every now and then wouldn’t be a horrible idea, educational... sorry I had to! I missed that bit while I was moving my cattle, and it’s just so funny because I was telling my husband why I was taking so long to get off the site this morning (I really, really love snakes!) and the whole “everything in Oz will try to kill you... I mean the Koalas even... scary little drop bears” bit was the first thing out of his mouth too!lol I have a Canadian friend who thought koalas cute & cuddly. I told her she should see a cornered full grown male then tell me that!![]()
I think everyone who's had to live with them hates them. I had a friend who used to put dead ones in clear door handles ~ ick!Wonderful. I hate them
