Redoing the bathroom - Your opinions needed! *!*Update pg 6*!*

I think they are more of a guilty pleasure. If I had the $$ I would have an oversize shower and tub.

If I could redo my parent's home, I would put in an oversized walk-in shower in place of or in addition to their tub. They are very elderly and have issues with safety. A friend had the opportunity to remodel her shower for her mother and made it an oversized, walk-in for that same reason.

One thing to always consider is the neighborhood of the house. Don't overdo the improvements beyond the neighborhood if you are looking to re-coup your costs. Certainly do it if that is what YOU want, but do not expect it to be an investment any more than your 72" flat screen plasma TV (or whatever is the latest technology), or the luxury features on your vehicle. However, if an improvement is the NORM for your neighborhood, realize that if you lack it, your house will likely suffer in price comparison.

With young kids, do not carpet your bathroom; it will get soaked time and again. Do consider putting splash guards on the walls next to the tub to help contain splashes, and more importantly, monitor the level of water in the tub; a few inches is plenty.

I used white wainscoting to shoulder high and then a nice medium blue for the ceiling and upper walls. I pulled the oak vanity, sanded and used a blue stain on it, pulled off the builder vanity and topped it with a solid surface vanity sink combo. Blue retro vinly for the floor and an oval mirrored med cabinet. I love it still 4 years later.

I found a picture.

Hey Sarah, I have a great photo for you of the bathroom we re-did. If I can only find it......... We definitely used one of the colors in your color spools. Look at Pottery barn. They have benjamin moore paint swatches in their room views. I will try to find a photo.

Okay here is a pic of the brown and mint together. We tried lighter browns but they did not look right at all. But then again it had to be a brown that went with the yellow in our living room, too.

The bathroom is still unfinished, but when were done with it it will have black and white checkered floors and pink accents

I think those colors are beautiful together. They may not be neutral, but it's your house, and even if you plan on moving in a few years, it should be what you want it, cause you have to look at it for that amount of time!

I'm impressed that you got it all done so quickly. Maybe my SO and I are just terrible procrastinators, but there is still duck wall paper, and border, and decor in our hall bathroom and we've been here for almost a year...

ETA Oops... I thought the mint & chocolate was from the OP.

So my comments about moving and getting it done quickly are null!

Im taking the projects slow...
We RUSHED when we moved in and did the whole house in about a month (not day after day because it was 30 miles from where we lived.. and sometimes Id have to do all the work myself..)

I have the wall sanded and holes/dents filled and half the walls taped off (all the high parts). I went and picked the paint up today and plan on starting today or tomorrow.

The lady at homedepot told me to use eggshell

Yeah that's one of our stripey doors lol. Were a couple of punk rockers and really wanted to do the house funky and awesome. By the time I was done with the living room a plain white door seemed out of place. Here's how it looks from the living room

We also did the door in the dining area that leads to the basement

We understand that not everyone is going to like out style (LOL) but were super happy with it and can't wait to collect more junk to throw in there. Everything in the room besides the hutch cost 40 dollars or less.
