respiratory symptoms- not getting better

Your right...Oxy Tetra-a will not cure my birds...During an out break it does help with symptoms being the disease if left untreated can become so bad that they die..A Bio-security Vet for Poultry and Swine recommended I cull my entire flock of 11 pullets and wait six weeks and start over...He understood my hesitation to do so and told me to give them OXY TETRA-A...Who knows if they will make it over winter?
I will see how things go...I hope the OP has great luck...
You're lucky that the oxytetracyline works for you, but it will not treat *many* on the bacteria that can be associated with upper respiratory diseases. Oxytetracyline is very unlikely to treat E. coli or pseudomonas aeruginosa. For either of those you would need something much stronger.

Yes, and thanks for the info....I know all this...Their is no cure for LT Virus so a stronger antibiotic will not work in my case...OP should contact a poultry vet to see what they are really dealing with...?

Hi all. I have a silkie pullet who started out sneezing, with bubbly eyes a few weeks ago. I tried Oxytetracycline with no luck except the bubbly eyes have gone away. I have been using VetRX as well. I am now on day four of Tylan50 orally with no improvement. She is sneezing and congested but her energy is fine and she's eating and drinking.

I have no idea what to make of this, or what to do for her.

Thank you in advance!
How much Tylan are you giving?

-Kathy

One of the problems I see *all* the time is people under dosing with drugs like Tylan and the cyclines. Then they post that their birds aren't responding, but who really knows if they aren't responding because they were given too little of a medication?

Hi, welcome to BYC!

I am sorry you have a sick a bird. Although I think it's sometimes best to keep it simple and not treat blindly.... I want to say that you are awesome keeping the bird separated when noticing a sneeze!. Too many people do not practice quarantine at all.

@casportpony This is why I've decided to report to every agency possible these Craigslist people who advertise daily "hundreds of birds"... across state and county lines. I bought 3 before I knew there were laws governing birds like this. They bait and switched me and I paid $50 for 3 birds and took across state lines. I ended up with mutts, but fortunate not to get illness. But I realize now that it can actually be a threat to national security if our food supply chain gets infected! So I realize it may have been ME that broke the law. I did contact them and let them know what I had discovered and they continue to shamelessly suck in newbies like me. Can you give me a personal suggestion as to how you would move forward? And since I have your attention can you tell me if you have any dosing info on Corid for people who ferment? Thank you.

Sorry Kathy...I did not know your an expert in Poultry and Medications....
I look forward to more of your answers.....

Cheers!
Not an expert in anything, lol, except for tube feeding maybe.

That one I have have pretty much figured out.

I thought that adult birds shipped into California were supposed to have a health certificate?

Corid and fermentation? Not sure what you mean.

I saw that you had dosing info on the amprolium... when my chicks were suffering from cocci, the standard dose wasn't working because of the amount of water in the fermented feed decreasing water consumption. Thought you might have some extra insight. I ended up doubling the dose in the water and not adding it to my FF.

The birds I got from the scammers were chicks. They live in Or and I am in Ca. Both about 20 min each side of the border.I saw them doing some type of business with one of my LFS (after being scammed) and notified the employees that their flier and people were lying about what they were selling. It looked like he might have been dropping off ducks for them to sell. I quit doing business there, but my daughter said I need to at least talk to the owner and let her know my concern before halting all interactions with the LFS. But if they KNOW those people are shady...

So I was considering contacting USDA, OR and CA dept of ag. Maybe the police or sheriff about the bait and switch as I had someone else contact me regarding the same thing with different breed and more $. Also if they are making their living like that.... why should they not pay any income taxes and be free from the law?

Sorry this is kind of off the original topic. It just seemed to accentuate that it isn't just about me being ripped off but also about bio security. And as I said this is a learning process for me.
