I have no way to know how that's actually happening, our last Chessie died 15 or 20 years ago.
I'm still thinking "maybe our next dog", and then feel like getting another lost soul rescue would be better...

Mary -- Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief and Rescue has Chessies looking for new homes... we have fostered some but have not been needed recently. We do transport when asked.

We currently have two dogs, rescues, and have decided that two is a good number, no more at once. Next time we are looking for another dog, I will look at the Chessie site again...

Yeah two is a good number. 3 becomes harder to take places or to handle by yourself. My brother and SIL have 3. I love them to death and have been around all 3 since puppies as well as used to walk them and dog sit for them so they LOVE me back LOL BUT! I have noticed with 3 you kind of need a spouse or friend or whatever to handle the third one if you go places LOL unless you’re pretty talented which despite being a true dog person, I am NOT LOL even two can be hard if they’re not trained yet or are particularly strong or energetic LOL they feed off of each other too and if one starts pulling or reacting or something? Forget it. The other one usually starts up too and then you are being dragged down the street like they are a sled dog team LOL one is usually best FOR ME OR two well trained ones. My brother’s and SIL’s are angels now LOL USUALLY. But they weren’t always. 🤣😭
