Ribh's D'Coopage

Going to bolt a cuppa coffee and push hard to finish my Tractor. High wind warning today, and it looks like it might rain heavily... Fun times. Otherwise doing peachy @ 7:35 am here... chickens are not coming outside, too windy and cold looking (little spoiled princesses!)

You too! I have to admit some of your puddle pics are dauntingly impressive! I think it’s about 1 am in Australia now though, so we might need to wait a bit to hear from @Ribh ;)

lol A 1am BYC run is not unheard off but this morning I am smugly sitting here sipping coffee in the happy knowledge we are all done & you 2 @Kris5902 / @WhoDatChick have big days ahead of you.:caf:caf:caf In reality, you have my sympathy. Battling the weather on a deadline is not fun.

I am merely refereeing. Last night ...what a kerfuffle! Five birds on the top rail all trying to sit on top of each other or squeeze in the middle, so kept falling off then had to run the gauntlet of unimpressed BAs & BRs. Everyone else on the middle rail, Big girls one end snapping their beaks @ everyone like crazy, & my odd bods the other. The MBR got on the rail herself & I snuggled Lottie beside her because last night she roosted alone & was a little cold I think. I eventually managed to get the Frizzle on the other side of her. She is so fluffy she seems to have trouble managing herself but boy! was Lottie happy! Two big fluffy girls on either side & she was snuggled right in under them both. lol Worse than kids, I tell you!

My neighbours came to investigate the new girls & I am stunned @ how little most people know about chooks. My poor Frizzle was admired by astonished onlookers. They never knew such a thing existed. Then I had to explain why molting & eggs do not go together & that all my new girls are @ different POL ~ you can tell by their combs. *sigh* My light FX is the youngest bird I think, which could explain why she is even more timid than her sister but given enough time I will have my calm, happy, peaceful flock back. When I let the big girls out for some free ranging the others were super calm. Even Pebbles was behaving rather than rushing round like Attila the Hun, Genghis Kan & Nero all rolled into one.

We are working on names. This is Lottie. She is an absolute sweetie & given her size she is doing really well amongst the big girls.

She can't be anything but Lavender. *sigh* I tried a few other names but Lavender she is.

And I need to point out my supplier is an enabler! We were chatting [as you do] about chickens in general & mine in particular & I was saying how happy I'd been with the girls she had supplied me last time only my BRs would go broody on me! I'm still blaming our summer heat for how often & how long they persisted! Then I shared about my obsession to own silver laced Wyandottes [so pretty!] & the next thing I know Kate is saying, Next time you have a broody ring me & my breeder can supply you with 3 day old sexed chicks to put under her. WHAT?!!! NO!!!! I am so not a chick person. Chicks terrify me. So small. So fragile. I tried: I have 12 & that's all my council allows me... Her response, she knows people in inner Brisbane [council limit:6] who have 20 hens or more! No~one is complaining. lol Heaven help me! Chicken math is a real hazard!

Not much happening here, just the usual Sumday morning :) I've eaten a plate of scrambled Barnevelder eggs and I'm taking time to enjoy a pot of loose leaf tea. The Barnevelder herself is in the nest box laying her egg, and the big Australorp is keeping watch, sipping water, and looking for nibbles. The cat is snoozing in the morning sun. It's a gorgeous autumnal morning: a bright sky and the air is cool with a touch of warmth. We seeded a wildflower meadow in the front yard a couple of seasons back and it's stupendous at the moment. Bursting with colour. The wildbirds are making a racket :) Hope the coop and tractor building goes well @WhoDatChick and @Kris5902 and that @Ribh's flock are kinder to each other than yesterday.

What is it people say? She's a 'bad influence' :lau

Piccies? John would be thrilled. He worked in the Simpson for several seasons & saw the desert after rain. I'd just love to see how it turned out. Pretty please?
