Ribh's D'Coopage

I don’t know if I had mentioned on here that I was building an outdoor bird cage for the parakeets...
I would’ve liked it to fit through a doorway ... thought of that a little too late.. @Kris5902 View attachment 1893540View attachment 1893541

Reminds me of a story of my late Uncle Ken. Who I often reminded my mother of a little too much back in my early 20’s... he was involved with all the wrong sorts and, after a few jail stints, was in a awful motorcycle accident about 5 years before I was born.

I grew up in a 12 suite 3 floor walk up from the early ‘60’s and I didn’t live in 3 of the suites over my first 18 years of existence. My grandmother and uncle lived in the same building in suite #4 on the second story. His knee was completely wrecked in the accident (he was broadsided at a 3 way intersection while stopped well back and waiting for right of way) and over the many months of physio and rehab he decided to kill the time by rebuilding his motorcycle.

In the apartment of course, as he couldn’t leave it. All was well, and he annoyed his mother to no ends with the “carburetor in the bath tub” and all sorts of other challenges. The best though, was when he finally finished it and was walking again... it was too wide to fit down the stairs, nevermind the weight! So half apart she came again and with the help of 4 friends the Harley Davidson custom Softail finally made it back to the outside!

Love your recipe Kris!
I feel like we should make a thread of Chook Cook Book ideas for what to feed our ladies under all the circumstances!

Or does one already exist?

You only love it because you haven’t smelled it yet! :sick :gig

My father built a boat in our living room; half a wall had to come out... :thLong history of boat fails. My mother is a very forgiving woman!:lau

it was going so well. The big girls were in the nesting box, so Sandy had it all to herself. Then someone else showed up and made her nervous - my fault, I'd left the gate ajar.

But in the end - all gone and all of it into Sandy :)

She looks just fine to me! Especially for a hybrid red layer... do you have a weight on her? Granted I haven’t met a chicken that didn’t appreciate a little extra egg, love, and goodness :)

:lau:lau:lau
At least it didn’t involve stairs! Now that’s one I can’t even begin to picture.
My father was a terrible romantic; my mother a far more prosaic sort. When they were first dating dad invited her to sail aboard his very first self built boat when she was launched. So he loaded mum aboard, & shoved this thing into the Brisbane river while cracking a bottle of champers over the bow. Unfortunately he had forgotten the bungs & down she went!:lau Mother & all. I very nearly wasn't!:gig

Oh! Maybe I'm worried about nothing. When I pick her up, her keel seems extremely pronounced. No, I haven't actually weighed her.

I must say she looks healthy to me too ~ but looks can be deceptive. If she's foraging, eating & drinking normally & not doing a Mary with her molt I expect she's fine. A little extra love her way won't go astray. I've always found rescues very grateful.

Learn something new everyday.

I said I was going to enjoy making these blankets ~ & I am! As I crochet I think about who I'm making it for, the chooks you keep, what I know of your likes & dislikes, what I've seen of your gardens & that translates into thinking about the sort of blanket I think you might like. So far I've had to learn @ least one new stitch!:lau

And because I want to personalise each blanket I have been choosing different edgings ~ & getting a little braver as I go along...well, I've had to be because each blanket & the person it is intended for dictates the border. Then I got to MJ ~ :gig I knew what I wanted but finding a pattern!!!! Oh. My! I don't know about anybody else but I would have sat on this thing for a year while I looked for the right edging! Then I found something on You Tube...Joyous Gladius! There I sat hook & thread to hand & ready to pause after each new instruction ~ & hey! What? What is wrong with these people?! :lau I've just discovered the Brits call everything by the wrong names!!!! I practically needed a translator.:gig Too funny making.

:barnie those Brit crochet folks! :gig:lau

That's amazing. I'm so grateful for your thoughtfulness and care.

Strangely, this is the second time such an amazing gift has come into my life. The day mum died, my best mate's mum was possessed by thoughts of mum's transition and my loss and knitted out a work of art in a scarf. So many different stitches, a colour here, a gold chain there, long fringes. Took her a couple of days, then it showed up tied to the front door. I had no idea and my heart and mind were permanently relieved by her kindness.
