Oh, I gave it a jolly good scare ~ & just so it knows who owns this yard I had a mass break out mid afternoon with the majority of my girls hurtling here, there & everywhere!Silly girls run to me as soon as I put in an appearance
& I pop them back over the fence. It was hot here today but their run is the coolest part of the yard ~ & where Soda headed was where we saw the snake ~ one of our more venomous & aggressive ones.
They had watermelon treats & the run hosed down too but give a chook an inch...
And now I’m having Steve Irwin flashbacks... but editing in the chickens running amok. I think your girls certainly see you as a safe place and like their rooster. The free range girls here would be like that with me, being as they were all ones I had worked with extensively. It caused some tension between Sammy and I for a while but we worked it out. No free ranging in their future again for a bit though, not with the Owl still lurking.
Today it was perched atop the barn doors at 2 in the afternoon; I think it’s missing it’s snacks and was trying to avoid the high winds and rain we were having. Yesterday Sammy and the girls made a break for it while I was feeding them (not liking the little teenagers or the meat tractor much) and the Barn was the first place they ran to! That’s a Hard No right now, so I’m going to have to be very careful about even daytime escapes. I suppose I’ll finally have to get around to fixing that gate to help slow them down some if they do get out again.
when Kirby decided to get on the coop roof truss & peer down through the wire yowling. Immediate consternation. Lottie vacated her spot & Tuppence tried to land there instead! 
Bedlam. Then Lottie saw Tuppence was eating her dinner & arrived back wanting to know what I thought I was doing? 
May depend on the girl. She likes her pav & can't make it in Chile. One son & his little family will join us @ some point but YD is working ~ the joys of being a professional singer~ & we won't see our middle son till the new year.
