My 9 year old took our leftover peas out to the chickens. He came back upset and told us his rooster scratched him. He has a scratch from his knee down to his foot. The rooster is 20 weeks old and has never done anything like that or shown aggression towards us. Is this a sign of things to come? I know we have to let the roo know we are the alpha not him. What can my son do to show this to the roo? We are not at that point where we want to make him into soup! Thanks

Your son should probably not go in there alone until you get the rooster back in his place, get your son either a net or rake, something to defend himself with, personally I like the net, you son can use it to chase him or catch him, most of my birds run like heck when they see the net.

Your rooster is reaching sexual maturity and is trying out his new found courage, you will have to show the rooster the error of his ways.
