Hi everyone, I am on day 7 of incubation my Sebastopol geese eggs. This thread is for others to post their candeling pictures I’ll be posting mine every few days. I have never incubated eggs before and decided to start with the expensive Sebastopol goose eggs because I am impatient and didn’t want to lose this breeding season to practice on cheaper eggs. I went on eBay and saw that someone selling these eggs lived 15 minutes from me so I got very luck and got fresh unshipped eggs. My eggs were put in incubator day 3 after laying. But I am a little lost my Candeling looks different then I usually see there pictures are of 7 day incubation. Are my babies alive? I think so but now doubt is creeping in. Egg weights on day 7 were Egg 1: 187.5 G Egg 2: 197.3 Egg 3: 185.7 G

Perfect great way to assist just a little air hole. Your doing great bet I see baby pictures tomorrow morning.

Here’s your pictures first one out, other two still chirping in the egg. Thinking about assisting the smaller egg, waiting until the afternoon. the heaviest egg has always been a day behind so I’m going to leave it for today see what happens. the other two aren’t externally pipped yet, still alive though.

All three are out and alive. I did assist a shrink wrapped one, that was nerve racking, it’s the darker smaller one in the middle. The other two that hatched after the first one are definitely weaker, I hope they make it through the night lol.

Hi and :welcome! I know nothing about candling eggs, especially goose eggs, but this link describes what to look for:
https://domestic-waterfowl.co.uk/ca...ven days, the eyes, will be nearly blacked out.

Here is a (kind of long) video from the National Sebastopol Geese Association:

In my unknowledgeable opinion all three look like they're alive, but hopefully someone more experienced will be along to help soon :)!

The pictures are hard to tell but I am seeing veining.
Positive signs
First sign is usually around day 5 the yolk will be visible and pronounced during candling
second sign is about day 6 a little red dot once you see the dot you will know it was fertile
third sign day 7-10 is healthy veining developing. you will know then if you have a healthy embryo.
These 2 pictures are from 2 eggs in my present hatch on day 7 the first one has good veining the 2nd one just started veining today. the reason for the difference is the age of the eggs and when they were laid. there are 5 different eggs all from the same girl all are fertile but all are in different stages of development. Hope that helps

Unfortunately I can’t post videos! But all three eggs have a goose that swims around when I candle! I had a great video of one egg the little guy doing flips. So far 3/3 for these purchased eggs. I do have a small piece of paper towel under each egg angling blunt ends slightly up. I started cooling and misting on day 6. I have my humidity at about 30 degrees and my incubator isn’t an expensive one so the temp ranges from 98.8-99.9(kenonix). I increase my humidity in the incubator before I goto bed because in the winter night time tends to be more “wet” if they were being sat on outside. So far they’ve lost two grams in 2 1/2 days since last candling. Which is exactly on track if they lose a gram a day they’ll hit their target of 15% weight loss.

My goose Dandelion laid her first egg of the year Saturday, so I'm going to leave her eggs to get her broody and then buy her some fertile eggs. I have lambs on the way they are due soon! Good luck with your goslings!

I just saw this thread, I hatched my first babies 2 weeks ago, it is an OBSESSION!!! I woke up to 2 hatched and the third I got to watch. You are right, it is crazy how big the air sac gets at the end and you should get a little pip soon. Can't wait to see them

Yesss I got my first PIP this morning on day 29. I made the tiniest pinhole in my unresponsive egg, 2 of 3 of my eggs have been rocking and wiggling for 2-3 days. The 3rd also my lightest one wasn’t active so I pulled it out today real quick and checked on it under the brooder and it was internally pipped, I put a thumbtack hole in it and it started chirping loudly after then I pat it with a warm wet towel and put it back in, lots of movement now.
