September Hatch-a-long!

I've got 3 new peepers One more is zipped and expected any minute.

The whole short story.. We found her being Broody over 3 wood eggs...

We then acquired these fertile eggs from a friend...

She kicked out an egg on day 3... Which, in the picture above, is the 2nd from top left. In a strange turn of events this egg ended up in the fridge and was found by me on day 4 so I candled it and then chucked it.

The rest of the eggs continued on and I candled this next one around day 10..

Which leads us to today. We are at day 20.. we got our first little chick of the bunch when we woke up this morning.

And since 730am til now we currently have 7 out of 9!

Funny how you can't get the best pictures with a broody and you have to wait to see the babies til they come out from under mama. Also we now have no clue which chick came from which egg. Not that it really matters since their dad was Blue Marans, the chicks will more than likely have brown eggs of different shades. There's a small chance of olive egger if either of the green turn out female. We do have a sibling of theirs and she lays the prettiest olive eggs. This will be the last hatch of the year for us... maybe.

I had to help the peep out of its shell this morning. No blood and it's moving about in the bator and peeping.

Lockdown starts tomorrow afternoon! I know I'm going to be a nervous wreck for the next few day until the hatch is over. So far I think all 26 of the original 29 are still going strong.

What do you guys do when your waiting on eggs to hatch? Asking for a friend.

Watch them? Just kidding, I do check them for external pips like a crazy person though.

Wait I thought catching up on BYC reading was a way to keep my hands off the eggs..... maybe I will just go play with the Turkeys.

We have 23/28 so far, last 5 are still in the incubator.

Those ones are all dried out and fluffy now! Congrats! Make sure you tell your mom that they didn't hatch in a 350-degree oven, neither! I'm still laughing about that one!
