September Hatch-A-Long!

Well, my one major rescue chick passed. I figured it was just a matter of time. But I am glad she got one day on earth to get love, snuggles, brothers and sisters, food and drink, and a snuggly stuffed dog to cuddle up in - which she loved. The other rescue is doing fine, I can't even remember which one it was now. My last one to hatch - the Orpington that took forever and got all stuck to her membrane is so tiny and weak. I had actually written off her egg around day 16 because it was the tiniest egg with a giant air cell and I hadn't seen movement since day 16. But I kept it in because I wasn't sure. I think she is a blue Orpington but not sure. She still has some of her feathers glued to her in spots. I will mess with her later when she is stronger if she makes it and get her do in order so the other chicks don't tease her :D She is very sweet but so tiny. I am not sure both her legs are in good working order but will give it time to figure out. I took some pics but now my internet is so slow I can't load any :/ Maybe later....

Is 80% humidity too high for lockdown? My humidity ran between 55%-65% the whole time up until now, but for lockdown I put a damp paper towel in the bottom of the bator and its running at 80% now. Should I lower it?

I generally see 65 - 70 recommended, but in my experience if its too high at first it will lower soon enough. However our humidity here may make a different result than where you are. I have never run my humidity that high for the first 18 days either though so can't really say for sure. Have you read the Hatching 101 article - it has a lot of great info.

Yeah I'm in DE which is on the eastern seaboard and pretty much at sea level and only 35 miles from the DE Bay and Atlantic Ocean. That seems to have run my humidity pretty high anyway. I've got it down to 78% but that's about as low as I have been able to get it without causing the temps to go too low.

I have turkey eggs that pipped internally 2 days ago. Hatch day is Friday. I am hoping they don't die.
