Hi
I set 24 mutt eggs from a neighbor on 3/11 also. So I will join you for the April Fool's Day Hatch!! I am so excited. This is my 2nd time at incubating eggs. I can't wait for the little fuzzy butts to get here.

My little mutts will be White Sex link mixed I think. Although I am not even sure. Just glad to get my chickens started again. I haven't had any now for over 1 1/2. I lost alot of my chickens to bobcats, coyotes and various varmits around our farm. Since then we have improved the chicken house to make it varmit proof. We will be making our chicken run this month. the fuzzies will be in the house until they have some feathers. My first hatch went well. I hatched Silkies from eggs I had received from a BYC. He was in KY. I did give them away so they wouldn't be eaten by the varmits. I had 14 of 24 egss hatch which was great. I am really excited about getting my flock going again. We are going to order some to come in the end of the month. That way they will be about the same age as the ones we are hatching. I am going to order some Cochin, Buff orps, Australorps, and a few others. Haven't decided on which hatchery to use yet though. I want to use one that is close so they don't have to travel so far.

When do you all candle your eggs??? I have heard to wait until day 7. Any suggestions?

I'll join as well; I set 25 eggs on Weds. the 10th. They are all mutts, but some will hopefully be EEs. I have 1 mutt rooster (Dinosaur Chicken), 1 EE rooster and 2 araucana roosters, so the odds are pretty good. Really hoping for some EE or araucana x half-silkie chicks... they would be weird-looking, but in a cute way.

wvtoliver,

I try to wait for day 7. Today is day 5 and i'm thinking .....

I thought we did a good job... my husband buried the fencing under ground.
But we lost 1 to a hawk attack! After that, we fenced in the top also. So far so good...

My best layer is my Red Star! She lays an egg every single day. I also have a Bantam EE that lays a little green egg every day...

Hey RockinRainbow and WVtoliver,

Where are you guys at??? I'm in Eastern Ohio outside of Barnesville. I was wondering what to do with all of those extra roos.
