Oh Yay! How exciting! Update with some pics when you can.

Guess i should post this someplace else but I am so ignorant when it comes to birds...Dogs cats im fine but birds?...hummm...
So when a roo mates a hen does it just take a second ?.Sort of fly up and get on her and off that quick ? Or do they stay for a minute or so to mate?
Anybody know?
2 of my roos have been jumping on the hens but only for seconds ...like 2 seconds or 1 no longer almost like they are running over them. or are they just practicing?

.
Sorry I have no clue, I have a breeding pair but they stay at my bf's place as I can't have roosters here.

Wont that be like putting alcoholics in a distillery? LOL Never ending hatch... SCAREY ...been on here in the hatch thread since. May ..June ? as it is OMG now its almost Jan and iPLAN to hatch a lot as soon as my girls start to lay.... and they are CLOSE... Wonder how many hours until your bator burns up?

ME too! Just went out to check on / candle the eggs, and while turning the bantam Cochin egg in my hand i felt a rough edge (thought it was a piece of grass) turned it over and heard *peep* *peep* and saw a little hole!!! The other 5 leghorn eggs look like they have all broken through the membrane too and are wagging their beaks around inside the shell!

So excited! Will get some pics for ya'll.

What is this lock-down you speak of?.... am i in trouble?
generally eggs go into lockdown the last 2/3 days where humidity is elevated and temps stay constant...I am only on my first hatch so maybe I'm crazy to think you wouldn't candle during that time lol.

Unless of course your hatching the old fashion way with a broody ;) then I really have no clue hahaha! My hens have yet to go broody.

ah, I see. I am yet again enlightened by BYC. Thanks for your info I will read up on it.

I am hatching these little guys under a broody hen, so hopefully she and the eggs didn't mind it to much?
